Default Sticky button and interior

Hi All !!

I just got my F type 2015 V8S and enjoying it so far.

One thing that bothers me is the way the buttons feel. I guess when they are new they feel good, but my car being 2 years old, they seem sticky !

Start/Stop is already ruined and I am going to change that ($150). I wanted to see, if may be there is a solution to this. May be the cleaning solution they used makes the button feel that way ? Not sure, looking for any suggestions or recommendations on the cleaning supplies as well.

Any help is greatly appreciated !

Thank you,
Naveen.

Start button available for $37 or so; OEM; Ebay. $150 must be a greedy source.

Get yourself some scratchless removal tools and you can pop the start button out and replace it yourself in less than an minute. Without having to remove the whole surround.
You may also be able to use dental floss to get under the edge of the button and pull it out. It is just spring loaded. Pops in and out.

As for the rubber flat buttons I'd try a mild soap/water solution. My go-to is usually 99% alcohol but that would probably dry out the rubber which isnt a good thing.

Yes I got the bronze one for my 2014 F-Type V6S. So assuming it's the same part, the part number is T2R18771 from Jaguar Reno. I had to pay $7.99 shipping, but it arrived on time and is a genuine part.

Default button simplified removal

like many, the start/stop button had become sticky. attempted cleaning with alcohol but removed the bronze color in the process. so i purchased a new button off ebay, reviewed the forums, and watched a good you tube on button removal. since i was removing the button to throw away, i wasn't concerned about destroying it. so i took a sharp sheetrock screw and drove into the middle of the button allowing me to easily pull the button out by hand. literally took me less than 2 minutes to change it out.

If the car is still under factory warrantee Jaguar will replace it free. My dealer replaced All the buttons in my XF before the warrantee expired at no cost. I am planning to have them replace whatever is sticky before my 2014F Type warrantee expires. Note only applies to original warrantee, not extended (even Jaguars).

Where were you 5min ago? I just ordered it from that same Reno dealership.

Actually, I had the car in the local dealer here a couple days ago. I asked them about replacing both the Park and Start buttons, but they only replaced the Park button. I'd chalk it up to the service department here being pretty terrible though.

agreed that would have been the best option and probably should have had it done on my last visit, however my warranty expired June 21 2017.

I just took my 2015 R in to have all the sticky stuff replaced. So common that the dealer stocks the parts.

Most of my buttons are now sticky, and I’m way out of warranty. I'll replace the start/stop button as it’s peeling, but I’ll try cleaning the rest. Soap/water/microfiber to start, then isopropyl, I guess. Don’t recall anyone reporting having luck cleaning them.

Terrific. I wouldn’t have thought in a million years to try hand lotion, but I’ll give it a shot. Thanks for the link!

Chanced upon this post when hunting for JLR Start/Stop button model numbers. Planning to develop a billet Aluminum Start button similar to the ones we have developed for the Mustang and Challenger/Charger/Viper.
A metal button will definitely get rid of this sticky issue and will also feel a lot classier. Interested in finding out from members what other items wear out in this fashion.

I tried rubbin' the buttons with Neutral parfum free Hand Cream to fix the problem as described here ( https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...lution-205664/ ). Unfortunately it didn't help and the buttons are just as sticky. I think I am going to try Isopropyl 99,9% and see if that fixes the problem. I am a little worried for the decals tho, anyone else succes with fixing the sticky buttons in an F-Type?

Did the Isopropyl or hand lotion work for you?
