Default Still negotiating. What do you think of this deal?

Hi all,

Many of you know that I've been talking to dealer about getting a V6S AWD. Things got hectic at work and I forgot to respond to the dealer. My forgetfulness was probably perceived as lack of interest. They sent me this today. Please take a look and tell me what you think. It looks like a fair deal to me with $4,500 off MSRP and money factor 0.00170 for a 30 month lease. Thanks.

Other than the fact that it has $13K in options I wouldn't want, it's a pretty good percentage discount off MSRP. But, what the heck are the nearly $3K in "upfront charges?"

$4500 sounds very decent. I got about $3800 off MSRP on my 2016 S AWD which listed for almost $89k.

pretty good, but you could probably get another 1-2k off if you shopped around and pitted a few dealers against each other, worth it to some, others not so much at that point of a 100k car. Personally I'd nix the tread plates and brake calipers, along with the red leather.... But of course to each his own.

I also thought another 1K or so reduction is possible but again how much of a difference would that make in the lease payment. Another more relevant consideration is we have about another month or so of warm weather left here in Iowa before we may start to see snow. So I should either just get the car now (so I at least get to drive it a little bit) or wait until next spring.

True, but it's also only a month or so before their potential buyers start to hibernate. Call them back and let them know you're close - another $1k and you're ready to sign. If they don't jump, say "thanks, but with the market being slow, Jag cutting prices, and winter coming," you'll pass. You can change you mind next week, but it will probably work.

When I bought mine, I couldn't seem to get them down the last bit of price I wanted. I got the proverbial "my GM won't go any lower." I said I understood, no problem, just business. I then threw in that his GM probably had a better sense of how much traffic they get for a convertible in January than I did. Two days later, I had my price.

BTW, in parallel, I picked up a SPARKS card and charged as much as they'd let me -- enough to get $580 in cash back.

For what it is worth the MSRP on my 2016 Jaguar F-Type Coupe was $79,800.00 and I ended negotiating it down to around $65,000.

Only problem this isn't dealers final invoice! Unless dealer is a relative you will never see it and even then maybe not. I had a close personal friend that owned a legacy Pontiac dealership and I trade a car from him for my product. We traded cost for cost as my markup was much higher but much lower unit cost. When he showed me the invoice it was like a little receipt book about 6 pages deep on what his eventual final cost was.

Sorry but I find it hard to believe 13% off a '16 . There was $5k dealer money on leftover '14 and then $3k on '15 and $5k on V8S, nobody is claiming any big deal on '16. We're talking new! True Car shows nothing anywhere near this, as well it is well below cost.

Yes, to put it as nicely as I can, I'm having a lot of trouble finding that post credible from someone with 2 posts. That's almost 20% off, and I don't recall anyone getting that except perhaps on a left-over '14 dealer demo.

I would keep looking. There are a couple dealers in Florida that are willing to come down quite a bit on 2016 F-Type Coupes. My wife has wanted one for a long time and we finally purchased it a few weeks ago. I was shocked when the dealer called me and accepted my offer. It is a white 2016 base with 20 inch black rims, red brake calipers, black interior with red stitching, sport seats, red seat belts, automatic, vision pack, and the upgraded leather option. The MSRP was $79,800.00 and we ended up getting it for around $65,000.00 give or take a couple hundred. I am going to post pictures later as I have spent the day wrapping the side vents in black and making all the emblems black.

I know I only have a few posts on this forum but you can also find me under the same user name on Stingrayforums as I also have a 2015 Velocity Yellow Z06 and I am going to do a comparison of the Z06 and F-Type as they have very similar dimensions and even interior design layout.

Your coupe was extremely marked up, $65K is the base invoice with nothing on the F type - so I could see you getting a Ftype at that price (with the JCNA incentive) but 79,800 probably wasn't the correct MSRP.

Actually with all the options it was the correct MSRP. I just pulled out the Factory Window Sticker:

Base MSRP: $66,300, Performance Seats $1,500, 20" Cyclone Alloy Wheel Black $3,500, Wheels Lock / LP package 138.00, Premium + Vision Pack $3,900, Extended Leather $3,100, Exterior Color Polaris White, Interior color Jet / Jet w/ Redzone Stitch, destination and delivery $995.00.

Total Suggested MSRP $79,783.00

And yes this is the real factory window sticker from Jaguar. This dealership has had 2016 F-Type Coupe S and R models listed on Autotrader for $10k - $12k off MSRP many times. Not sure how they do it but they do.

Keep in mind that dealer invoice is roughly 6% off MSRP, and there is no hold back on JLR vehicles. There is some dealer cash on the back side based on total sales, which I think its roughly 3% of overall sales but unless you're working with the GM or SM, most sales people cannot touch that. Especially on a 2016 MY.

So, if you're getting more than 6% under MSRP, you're into the point where the salesman isn't making money on the sale (the dealership may still), if you're more than 9% under MSRP, then other sales are subsidizing the sale and its likely an older floor model they are trying to move because the floor cost is killing them.

You usually don't see more than 10% off except for older model year vehicles, and you generally don't see 15-20% off except for demo cars. Most dealerships won't sell a car at a loss to them. So if it seems really good, they are likely padding the sale with extra points on the interest or a poor offer on a trade-in to balance the books.

In my experience anyway. If you know a dealer personally, they may be more willing to cut you a deal that doesn't fit the classic mold as they are taking on some of that cost themselves.

Being offered $3k off a 2016 F Type R with a $108k MSRP at the moment. Trying for $6 (5% basically), seems to be hard work at the moment.

Still very skeptical! Would have to see bill of sale to believe, also warranty in service date. Dealer group in LA starts warranty to get Jag incentive to show sales but still sells as new car at good price.
