Supercharger Pulley Belt snapped
hi everyone, I'm not mechanically minded so this might be a stupid question. But my supercharger belt has snapped completely off and i can't get the car into a workshop for a couple of days.. Do you think it would be safe to drive without the belt on? thanks
How many miles on the car? OEM pulleys?
+1 - it will run, but b/c its supercharged, will run richer than N/A..... might cause damage to Cats, etc....
Best to wait till belt arrives - should be warranty if its 2017 model

Thanks for advice, 10000 miles AP pulley
Hmmm, running an "AP" (I suspect means VAP) pulley (lower/crank pulley I guess), I think you will have problems with a warranty claim.
Also, if you are running a larger lower/crank pulley then it's a different pulley belt, a bit longer than the stock belt (because bigger pulley, duh!), and a new stock belt won't work.
Did you keep the stock pulley, belt and tensioner?
If so get them put back on and revert to the stock tune for the time being.
If, however, you are simply running a smaller upper pulley then I'm not sure about the belt question, I suspect it's still the stock belt and you might just get away with a warranty claim for a new belt.

If you take your car to the dealer with VAP mods installed, your car will be black flagged and any future engine-related warranty work denied.

+1 to all that. Also, check to make certain that the lower pulley is properly aligned with the upper pulley. There is no reason for that belt to snap after only 10k miles unless the pulley isn't aligned properly. Did VAP provide you with a Heavy Duty belt (green color on the smooth side)?
How could it have been installed misaligned, and how would one check that?
On the lower pulley, hard to say. But still worth checking. A straight edge across either pulley could provide a good indication.
No. The decrease in arc with a change in the smaller pulley is so small that it falls well within the take-up range of the idler. However, the increase in contact arc for the lower pulley is significant enough to require the next belt size up. Unfortunately, those are only available in a 1-sided (grooves) belt requiring transition from a grooved idler to a smooth idler.
No other ancillaries on that belt. Just the SC. Otherwise we'd potentially be overdriving those devices with a lower pulley swap.
Someone with the VAP kit would have to answer that question. Eurotoys automatically sends the heavy duty belt with their kit.
I got the Eurotoys pulley and it didn't come with the HD belt, just the "ordinary duty" belt, Gates K080570. That's for the "Gen 1" stock pulley, for the "Gen 2" they sent me the Gates K080580 belt. I don't know when the V6S stock pulley changed from Gen 1 to Gen 2 but it was probably MY2015 to MY2016, seeing as I have a MY2015 and I needed the Gen 1 upgrade and unhingd has a MY2016 and he has the Gen 2 upgrade. Funny how unhingd reckons you should get the K080575HD belt, which I suspect is halfway in between in length of the 70 and 80 belts, so I'm guessing 1476 mm long. Despite the difference in length I guess that belt will be perfectly OK.
Make sure you get the correct pulley and belt, there are two different shapes of pulley and two different belt lengths, see post #3 in this thread: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/f...ecials-192638/
