Question Synthetic oil switch over...how soon?

OK...from what I understand, the standard factory fill on these cars is ordinary dino oil, there is NO way I'm leaving the original oil in my car for 16k if that is when the first oil change is recommended so...my question is:

How soon can I/should I switch over to a good quality synthetic oil like Mobile 1?

Just an FYI that Castrol has finally announced an oil that meets the Jag spec STJLR.51.5122:

This spec was called out in the original manual, but there's an addendum that gives a 5W-20 Ford spec:

And I can't believe they put conventional oil in these at the factory. Are you sure?

Mobil 1 does not meet the Jag spec as I understand.

I read the pages of the owners manual pertaining to oil and it made no mention of synthetic...so I'm assuming it's not...I figured it would mention that fact if it was.

Of course we all know what happens when you assume...does anyone have proof that it is synthetic?

I assumed the oil was synthetic from the factory, but I'm not sure and my intention is to change it for the first change after about 3-4 thous. miles anyway.
Don't have the manual in front of me, but I believe the new ones are all 0W-20, no doubt for fuel consumption standards.
I asked the master mechanic at my dealer if I could switch to 5-30 (all synthetic) without a warranty problem and he said not to.
Just a FYI
Lawrence
