Default Telematcics- New module

Guys & gals on here. I have to replace my 2016 F-Type Telematics unit. Once I give it a new battery (In the module) and that new module is installed by me, does the car have to be "flashed?" My point is, do I have to bring it to Jaguar before it will work? Also, "IF" do the install myself BEFORE I have the car flashed, does that hurt the module?

Can you give us some details on why you are replacing the TCU?

The TCU is coded to the VIN of your car as it is a communication, remote control, and anti-theft device.

Or are you just replacing the TCU battery? Any error codes like "SOS limited functionality"?

Yes, the error light came on the dash the way you explained it. I tried a new battery and that didn't work. So, I bought a used telematics unit and plan to install it Monday. Does the car then need to flashed or is it just a "plus & play?" FYI, my scan tool clears the error code out but it comes back ASAP.

@jaguarguy100 Try clearing the TCU Module error code using a bidirectional OBD2 tool - in fact we were just discussing this:

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/f...attery-281619/

If that doesn't work disconnect your battery for a few minutes and reconnect. This will reboot the TCU and possibly clear the code. I would also try the OBD2 method after this as well a couple of times before going to the dealer.

Good luck and report back - the more we know the better because this TCU problem is going to affect everyone on this forum sooner or later.

Hello, I do have an OBD2 tool. Where is this process to end the error code?

Do not remove the cables on your battery, we do not want to corrupt any modules ,if your not familiar ,with the system ,please have the dealer reset it for you ,its very easy if you have the SDD OR PATHFINDER ,IT WILL COST YOU A HOUR ,If I was in your area i would do it for you,, there are a few JLR scanners out there that can do it

@jaguarguy100 what OBD2 tool do you have?

@dennis black can you elaborate on not disconnecting the battery? Everyone does it on this forum to address myriad problems (such as the OBD2 battery drain issue) without negative consequence.

Jagcode 3, here is a pic of my OBD 2 scan tool. It has everything but can't see the code. BUT, either way the DTC are all zero'ed out. IE- 0 yet the light comes back and I later disconnected the main battery for 8 minutes. No change.....the light comes back on.

@jaguarguy100 does it give you a list of all the modules when it does a full scan? See if you can specifically enter the "Telematics Control Unit Module" and investigate. See if you can do a scan just in that module and clear any code unique to that module.

Hi
just wondering if you changed the module as I have a issue with the module battery only last a couple of months. Someone has suggested it could be the
module itself that could be faulty.

When I got a fault I replaced the battery. The fault did not immediately go away. I needed to drive for a while to get the rechargeable half of the battery pack charged up. I think later models have a single-cell battery pack, but my 2016 has a dual-cell, one of which is rechargeable. There's a fair bit of discussion here:

Yeah, the battery is only recharged when the car is running - a cunning ploy to make you use the car! It took a few weeks to get mine to work reliably after I changed it.

Takes a solid 45-60min of running to get the TCU battery to fully charge and clear the faults usually if everything is in working order. It's only a 4v battery, it goes slow.
