Thumbs up Then and Now...

Java & Jalopies event on the waterfront in Monterey 1st & 3rd Saturday each month,I arrived early twice with both cars and snapped these...thought you guys might enjoy.

Only 87 years difference between the two cars and while they're both as polar opposite as two automobiles can be,they are both immensely fun to drive, always manage to put a smile on my face...and both attract huge attention.

Buick,

Please share more details about the Deuce Coupe. It did start life as a '32 Model B, right?

It's very stunning and tastefully done!

Edit, wait--87 years would be a Model A. I'd love to hear more.

Beautiful pictures Buick!

I suspect many of us here also could have some "then" and "nows" - perhaps some "thens" more successful than others - and while I too have some very successful and enjoyable "thens", I prefer "now". (Not that it has to be one or the other).

"Now" if you'll excuse me, it's time to drive my F-Type*.

Best regards,
Jay

*Truth is, I already have today. Written just for literary purposes.

It's a 28 Model A featuring an all-steel Brookville body mounted on a '32 frame,very popular combination.It has a '32 radiator shell chopped 5" and '34 louvered sides with a custom hood.The Duval-style windshield was custom fabricated from billet aluminum.It's powered by a 302 with a hotter cam,backed by a C4 auto trans and finally a 8" Ford rear end.

The interior featured 2-stage heated leather seats (top & bottom) and I recently had the floor redone using German Mercedes carpeting.

I had the car painted a single-stage black toner, the bottom of the car is literally nicer than the top.

The builder passed away suddenly early last year and the car just kinda fell into my lap.I'm the caretaker now,he built many cars in his career, many that graced the covers of magazine...including this wild Corvair-powered Bucket.

That's a very nice-set up, and a very bullet-proof, street-friendly drivetrain with plenty of power for such a light car.

It's also just drop-dead gorgeous. I would love to find something like that.

Unfortunately for me, I can't recall ever seeing one done as perfectly, according to my taste, as yours. It has all the right touches without being gaudy.

You know...I wish I could take credit for it but all I did was put my own touches on it and finish it the way he would have had he had the chance.

They truly are never done,I still have some thoughts on some subtle touches to keep the theme going, when I painted it,it kind of took away some of that bad boy hot rod feel out of the car and I was concerned that I prettied the car up too much...but I still feel it was the right direction to take it.

He was trying to sell it before he passed and had a buyer in line but they wanted a top and the car painted so he started roaring away on a top frame which I have.I also have the material he meant to cover it with.I will probably more than likely finish the top but I could never imagine me ever installing it...maybe to test fit but that'd be about it.

I just changed from a Demon 750 to a super light Holley 600 and the car is so snappy now at tip-in with zero hesitation...just a completely new car. That 750 was just too much carb and no matter how much I messed with it after I rebuilt it,I just couldn't get the stumble out of it.
That's one thing I've done is improved performance,Don was a true custom fabricator but not much of a mechanic.he had the timing set at 2 degrees retarded (currently now 16 degrees) and way too much carburetor for a 302.Now I know seat of the pants it feels stronger mid-range,idles smoothly and I'm certain is sipping less gas.

F-typical,
Those are Buick drum brakes, they were famous for the cooling fins.
The in thing to do nowadays is to have modern disc brakes fitting inside the drum housing...
