I took the polished intercooler cover to my paint protection guy and he will have some hi-temp caliper coating applied that is a Ceramic Pro product. This should protect against the white surface oxidation that is all too common on under-hood polished aluminum bits.

Unhinged, did you polish the car cover yourself. Any details on who, how, how much?

 

I taped (Gorilla Tape) up both heat exchangers, the entirety of the underside, and plugged all holes to prevent damage and to ensure that the polishing residue did not get into the works. I then had a local polisher/plater polish to the best of their ability ($350). Given the roughness of the original casting, the polishing is not perfect in all the nooks and crevices, but looks great from 3 feet away. An additional $20 (probably $50 if the detailer isn't a good friend) got it Ceramic Pro coated (caliper & wheel formulation) to prevent the white surface oxidation so common on aluminum. Paid another $44 for a new cover gasket, though that probably wasn't really needed given the rubber seal on the metal gasket (I'm keeping the old one as a spare). The biggest part of the expense is having a spare cover/exchangers unit on hand to polish so the car isn't out of commission while the cover is being polished.

Didn't post what I was thinking as didn't want to jinx you. When I saw that piece in the pic above I feared for you. Thank the higher being it was in the pocket and not about to reek havoc in the heart of your engine!

 

 

Speaking of engine covers, I initially found evidence of rodential (field mouse) visits. I even once caught one napping under the original cover. I took to using perfumed dryer sheets to discourage them. It seems to be working.

I thought of that because I change them once a month, and today was the day.

 

Dang it! Now I want to wrap my engine cover to match everything else. (I didn't see a shifty emoji, so this will do).
