Default Tint on windows?

Does the panoramic roof and rear window have any OEM tint? Both the rear window and panoramic roof looks pretty dark and it feels like it has some tint. Does anyone know if it is tinted what % tint is it?

How about the front windshield? Any % tint on that?

All the glass has a tint, just not nearly as much as some would like.

Also is the tint painted in or is further tint is added, does the factory tint need to be removed?

Don't know the percentages but the tint is actually in the glass and meets the requirements of all 50 (United) States. Cannot be removed. Additional tint is accomplished with the application of tinted film.

I feel like you are asking about tint % for a specific reason. Are you worried about legal compliance if you do aftermarket tint?

This may not be relevant (as maybe US-spec cars have different glass), but UK law is:

Front windscreen must allow at least 75% light through.
Side windows (front only) must allow at least 70% light through.
No restriction on side (rear) windows or rear windscreen.

In the US each state has their own law regarding tint.

The percentages are VERY low from the factory. If you are really worried about being legal, stay 5% above the limit with your tint and you should be fine.

A quality tint shop should also be able to guarantee you are legal (if you wish to remain so)

A lot of people forget that adding what might be a legal aftermarket tint to OEM tinted glass can easily take it over the limit. Many tinters will tell you their tint is legal, but they are often not factoring in the tint that's already there.

Totally agree. That's why the recommendation was to stay 5% above the limit, and / or use a QUALITY tint shop.

I've done many of my older cars myself, but as I get older and windows get more curves in multiple planes, it's just easier to pay someone else to do it now, but I still won't let the neighborhood teenager with a Facebook page for a tint shop do my work.

that looks like the rear and I wouldnt doubt thats tinted at 70%, it certainly looks that way. Are the sides and front tinted at 70% as well? How can we confirm this?

I'm thinking of going to my installer and using a spectrograph or whatever device they use to measure VLT to see what the values are.

I wasn't taking a picture of the tint. I took a picture of the writing on the glass...it shows 70%. Look at your car's rear window.

Yes, all the glass is stamped as "70% min." including the windshield.

Hmm, I still don't think thats right. Its probably a warning to not got below 70% since thats the legal limit in most states. In CA front tinting a windshield is illegal so I doubt OEM values for the front windshield are already at 70%.

I'm going to the shop tomorrow and they have one of those VLT measuring devices. I'll report back on once I test what the actual values are.

The CA law specifies that no additional tinting to the OEM tint is allowed. Federal windshield laws allow OEM tints of 70%. Therefore an OEM windshield tint could be as much as 70%, even in CA.

It's not a "warning," it's the specs stamped on the glass. Go look for yourself.

As a thought, while my F-Type is legal, I've had past cars that were illegally dark and never had a problem. The only people I know of who have ever had a legal problem are those who tend to attract cops attention in a negative way, which nice cars generally don't do.
