Default tire width of f type

Hello, I've never been on a forum so sorry if I'm not doing this right. This week I plan to buy a used F Type R. What are the widest tires I can put on the car front and back without messing up the mechanicals and does anyone know of a black rim that would look great. Rob

The widest that fit "for sure" with no problems are those that are fitted to the SVR, so 265/35R20 front and 305/30R20 rear. It may be possible to go a bit wider at the front to say 275/30R20 but I don't know of anyone who has tried that, and 315/30R20 might just fit on the rear without rubbing but again I don't know of anyone who has tried it.

Two of the better looking oem rims are the carbon fiber blade ones and the tornados, but sounds like you want aftermarket with wider tires? Not sure if the oem rims can accept wider tires, but cross referencing the SVR would give an answer. If you do a search on the forum there are several new wheels threads that may give you some ideas?

Manyof the wheel styles come in black. You can also have wheels powder coated black.

The R normally comes with 255s front & 295s in the rear as that is what the stock 20" Gyrodyne wheels will support. If you want to move to 265s on the front, the stock 20" rims will fit that next size up but the rears will not as the SVR rims are 1/2 and inch wider than the stock 20" Gyrodynes on the rear so while a 305 "might" fit on an R, I don't recall anyone even trying without the wider SVR rims

Lots of us are running 305s on the OEM 20” wheels. Tires any wider than 265f/305r will be pinched by the 9”f/10.5”r OEM wheels. Going wider than those tire sizes will make the front/rear tire matching very difficult due to limited options.
