Default Took my '23 R on first road trip and cruise control not working

Just go my new to me '23 R few months ago and took my first road trip. Car only has 3000 mi on it. I could not get the cruise control to work. Turned on the switch and set the speed, it all showed up in the dash, but would not engage.

Thought maybe I had some setting that was not allowing cruise, nothing in the manual said I was doing it wrong. I Did not have it in dynamic or anything.

Just busted? Time for a dealer visit? Hate for them to take a dash or steering wheel apart. Maybe just live with no cruise?

That's an odd one. Not heard much about issues with cruise. It won't work if you have track DSC mode or DCS off (traction control) but those default back to normal when you restart the car. It also may not work if you accidently put the speed limited on. It's a button near the gear selector

Other issues could be a dirty cruise radar sensor at the front of the vehicle. You might try disconnecting the battery in the trunk for 30s and reconnecting it. That often fixes gremlins.. just don't close the trunk with the battery disconnected (and have keyfob nearby as alarm may activate when you reconnect

Last thought - have you pulled the stored codes to see what the car is telling you? If you don't have a code reader then most auto parts shops will pull codes for free. Post them up here

Good luck and hope you are loving the new ride!

The F-Type doesn't have dynamic/adaptive cruise control so there is no radar sensor. It's just the old-school set-and-hold cruise control.

I agree, it is strange and not a problem I've ever seen reported on here. Definitely worth the usual diligence on making sure the battery is fully charged (and do a battery reset as mentioned above).

I know F-Types have speed limiters you can set. Could you have set that by mistake instead of the cruise control?

I don’t think there is a button for turning on or off the cruise control.

I read too fast. BritCars and Robtrt8 have it correct. There is no button to turn on the cruise control. You pressed the speed limiter button and then used the SET buttons to set the limiter speed. Speed limiter and cruise control are mutually exclusive so if you press it and toggle on the speed limiter you disable the cruise control (and vice versa). So press it again and the cruise control should work. Here's the relevant portion from the manual:

THAT is what the ASL button on the steering wheel does? It is against my religion to press that type of button.

ASL = Automatic Speed Limiter

well, now I feel stupid. I was pushing the heck out of the speed limiter button thinking that I was activating the cruise control.

Why would I ever want to have a speed limiter? If I wanted to limit my speed I would have never bought an R !!

I need to take it out today and wash the bugs off from the road trip. I'll take it for a spin up the highway to make sure I know how to do it now.

Thanks guys, you helped out this 76yr old who apparently struggles with technology !!!

From what I can piece together the ASL is for the UK where they have ten of thousands of automatic speed camera's giving out citations if you exceed the speed limit at all. So to prevent you from "accidentally" exceeding the posted speed limit you can engage the ASL.

Maybe someone can weight in with a better explanation as that entire feature seems to me to be useless.

It's just another level of government control like the electronic "driving monitors" the insurance companies want you to install. Now you can be monitored 24/7 without you even knowing it! Pure nirvana for sure and I feel so safe!

I actually used the speed limiter on my car once. It was on the drive back home after picking it up at the dealership. I had a 400 mile trip and given the engine has a break in period and I did not want to get too carried away on the trip home I set it on 75 and took it relatively easy on the drive back.

My car is automatically limited to 171MPH.

I tried ASL once, right after I got the car. It works. Any use after that came from accidentally hitting the ASL button.

Your post made me realize I never tried it on my 2024. Yeah, worked good, and I never had to hit any button to enable it...I just hit the Set button and it worked right away, and then from there it works like any other cruise setup I've used.

Good luck
