Cruise Control Help
I drove to the dealer Wed morning during the Hurricane to have both ends aligned. Since it's the first time I've driven the car more than a mile I decided to give the Cruise Control a try. No Joy. I only tried to set the speed using the "Set" button but the cruise didn't engage. How do I examine the system to figure out what's wrong? Is there a schematic for the Cruise Components anywhere? Or does the ECM provide all of the control via the Throttle Body?
Update: I saw on a YouTube video that there should be vacuum solenoids, etc under the passenger wheel well liner (above the atmospheric recovery tank). But my car has no such components. Nor does it have any wiring or vacuum hoses in this area. The car does have the Cruise Control switch on the steering wheel but no components under the wheel well. WTF?
Thanks everyone.

On 1998s the cc throttle is controlled by a vacuum line to top of throttle body. I recall they changed that, but not sure when. From experience if you lost that vacuum, you'd get cc to start, but the 1st time you go uphill and car tries to increase throttle - nothing happens a/c no vacuum cc shuts down amber light, and message in display.
1. Is cc button pressed in? Dogs love to push it off as they walk across.
2. Is cc button lit?
There are several conditions that shut cc off, I don't recall any that prevent it from starting. FWIW cc works in any forward gear.
Fuse ok?
Let me think more. Hope its the button (we've all done that) in off position.

What CC button? I read the manual (except the manual that came with the car is for the '03 to '06 but my car is an '02) and it doesn't mention a CC button, only the Set/Decel/Cancel buttons on the steering wheel. There is a Governor switch on the console beneath the gearshift for switching between cruise control and the governor (max speed). The red LED on it is off (which, according to the manual means that the governor function is disabled and the Cruise function should be enabled).
I don't have any messages or warnings before or after pressing the Cruise "set" button. I haven't checked the fuse but I'll have to.
The later cars only have a sport button, no cruise control button. Some cars have an Automatic Speed Limiter button to the left of the Sport button.
Do the other steering wheel controls work (volume up/down etc)?

So on the '00 to '02 cars the button on the left on the gearshift panel is the CC button NOT the Auto Speed Limiter switch?
I'll give it a try.
I'll give it a try.

Believe the XK8 switched cruise control from vacuum to electrical in 1999. I was checking for a vacuum leak on my 1999 XK8 and pulled the wheel liner (was told by dealer that vacuum leak on cc was a common problem) and found no cc components there, but my cc worked fine.
