Default Touch screen not responding to touch

Day one of ownership. I spent a half hour trying to pair my phone, none of the touch screen buttons did anything. Then suddenly it started working when I was in the climate control screen. Paired the phone and it went dead again. Is there some button I am pressing that is enabling and disabling the screen?
Thanks for any info.

I also have some problems with the touchscreen on my 14V6S and posted already without any answer. As soon as I start the car the screen respons but the position of my finger does not match the “Action”.
After a few minutes my screen does not respond anymore.
Tried to reset but had no luck…
Thinking of upgrading with some aliex…

In both cases above, the battery voltage is suspect #1. Do NOTHING until you have brought the battery to full charge!

Default Battery fully charged, no change in condition

I fully charged the battery, no change. I attempted the reset procedure:
From what I have read, to reset, press the power button until the screen blanks.
Questions, which power button, the hard button on the left of the screen or the one on the volume knob. I tried both for 20 seconds and the screen never blanked.

Then I disconnected the battery for 15 minutes. Again no change. I guess I will have to go beg the seller to fix it. Just bought the car three days ago.

Try holding the on/off button for 4 or 5 minutes, when my radio nav and phone Bluetooth wouldn't work after battery disconnect, this fixed it.

Review the phone connection procedure in the owner's manual.
Scroll down on your phone's screen to find the place to insert the password which will be 1313 or 1234 or 0000.
You are dealing with early 2000s technology. It's klunky.

Tell us about your success.

The one on the infotainment system, not the volume control.

First of all, thanks for the help / suggestions. I just tried pushing the power button for five minutes. I did it twice, once from the on screen, once from the logo screen. At about the two minute mark the screen cycled to the next mode (on to logo, logo to off) but never reset. After doing that the touch screen is still not responding. One article I read showed the same symptoms fixed by a software update that cost $400 at the dealership.
Going back to the car dealership that sold me the car to see what they will do. I actually want to replace the touch screen with something that will do wireless carplay which I expect will fix everything. They seem to cost about $500 plus installation, I need a backup cam anyways.
I know from experience that when I trade in this car in a few years the dealer will ask "where is the stock radio". I'll post the results of all of this.

I am not sure if disconnecting the battery or attempting to do a reset has had any effect but now sometimes the touch screen works. I just went and tried it this morning and no response at all. I have never seen the behavior (when holding the power button the unit does a reset).
Does anyone know if cold affects the touch screen? It seems to consistently not work when it is in the < 33f.
I am considering installing this:
https://www.gtacarkits.com/product/w...ype-2014-2017/
But I don't know if it would help, I would assume that if the touch screen itself is broken it would not help.
Also wondering if driving the car is jiggling a wire or component which is making the screen work / break.
Dealership where I bought the car is ignoring my calls / messages. I will pay a visit today.

Just a WAG on my part but has the screen been cleaned with anything other than water?

I would like to add that when it does work, about 5% of the time, it works perfectly or not at all.

It might be a loose connector on the back of the screen. If you tap the frame does anything happen?

I would remove the trim to get to the screen and have a look at the rear connectors. Take pictures. There are connectors in the rear also to the radio module. Since warranty is expired this will need to be DIY or it could get very expensive. Lots of used screens for sale on eBay if you want to swap.

Or just replace with a new Android head unit like

Thank you, thats really interesting. The carplay stuff I have been looking at does not replace the screen. Also, to see a replacement on ebay for $250 is making me less worried that the dealer is going to stiff me.

@Evoex and @Tracy Rominger plus others have had success with their Android head units, so you might message them for details.

If the dealer refuses to fix this issue unless you pay, I would just buy an Android head unit and do the install yourself. They usually offer rear and front cameras, some with 360.

Removing the trim in the F-Type is easy, it should otherwise be plug-and-play with their JLR-specific harness then some adjustments later You can save the old hardware in case the next owner wants to go back to all OEM.

More or less all this.

I gave the dashboard a couple of taps and the touch screen has been working ever since. The dealer has contacted me and offered to help. Are there carplay options, I am an iphone user. I will have to say that after clicking the link above I really like that option and I like the stuff that you get out of the OBDII.
