Default Trunk won’t close while car is locked

I have a 2016 F-type coupe, and I’m trying to figure out the trunk. If I get out of the car and lock it, and then walk to the trunk and open it, it opens fine. However if I close the trunk, it does the super loud double beep, and then I have to manually lift the trunk back up. It refuses to lock it the car is locked.

Surely this isn’t normal??

Not how mine works (MY 2015).
Locked car, open trunk, close trunk, all locked no sweat.

Definitely not normal, I frequently do what you do and don't have any problems.

It only does that for me if I leave my keys in my golf bag, then try to close the bag in the trunk. I.e. it won’t let me close the keys in the trunk.

Our 2014 allows the trunk (boot) to open & close without any beeping while the fob is within range. (The doors remain locked, at least the handles stay retracted. If the fob is left inside the car will the handles retract?)

If your fob is out of range, can you open the trunk on your locked car?

This is just a W.A.G., but are you getting any indication (on the center display) that your bonnet (hood) is unlatched? I found out a few months ago that the car will not lock if the hood is open.

I'm with Dave. Your car thinks there is a spare keyfob in the trunk. Will close just fine if the doors are unlocked and will close, double beep and unlatch if the car is locked. Make certain you know where your spare fob is located.

But can you lock the car by the door if there's a fob in the trunk? Seems that's what the OP is doing.

OP didn’t say he used the handle to lock. The door can be locked with the fob if the spare is in the trunk. I have not tried with the handle because I did not want to run into the house for the spare, but I suspect you are right that it wouldn’t work. I still vote for a spare in the trunk or a sensing receiver that’s misfiring.
