I always wondered this. When unlocking my trunk, it does indeed unlock but doesn't move upward. Is that normal functionality?

 

Mine moves up a couple of inches when it unlocks, but I have an X350.

I don't know if they are the same.

When you unlock it, it should spring up off the lock but only a very short distance. You then just pull it open.

And since the trunk lid is not really spring loaded for opening assistance you can pretty much let gravity drop the lid shut. As most of us probably found out very early on, no spring resistance made slamming the lid shut a surprisingly loud event. I had to keep reminding the wife and kids about that.
