Default Turbo 4-cyl F-Type has arrived...

Engine start-up around 50 secs in, and towards the end.

I didn't want this to happen. I don't want to see more of my car around

I don't understand the logic. Now we have a 300, 340, 380, 400 hp range, and a 550, 575 hp range. There is a huge gap in the 450-500 range that, in my opinion, represents real useable power for this car on a road circuit.

Indeed, I find this news rather disappointing.

The F Type is my favorite car on the road today, period. Part of the appeal is that it is still uncommon, even in affluent neighborhoods. While I see this as a plus, it appears JLR feels differently.

Jaguar releases the Miata-Type.

I really don't understand why they are watering down their main performance brand. They are treating it like an SUV.

At least Porsche renames them

A used boxter with 50k miles isvcheaper than a VW these days.

Will be interesting to see how this affects the secondary market. A used $10k f-trype sitting next to a used $60k f-type?

"I'll take the real one and the parts car please".

At least we should get more aftermarket parts.

So I guess this is an attempt to lower the cost of entry, and on the one hand I can see the disappointment for the existing owners that the rarity is going to be diluted. But as has been discussed before on other forums (not just Jaguar) the harsh economics state that a company needs to get good cashflow in on as wide a range as possible to be able to spend R&D and tooling etc on the more "enthusiast" cars, which some would say are ours.

If it means that Jaguar can continue to put out exciting cars like the F-Type and whatever is in store then I'm going to continue to enjoy my tuned V6. I guess we may see a few more photos of the 4 cylinder sporting "R" or "SVR" badges on the back but they're always good for a laugh.

I think I saw the starting price was estimated at $60K so that's still not "cheap" in the what car should I buy stakes...

My 2c. Or 2 cylinders...

Disappointing. But at least they haven't discontinued the V6 supercharged models... yet.

I think the target audience of F-Type owners buy with +Performance in mind.....and to me...the four won't meet that. I imagine the price point will be higher than their XE line where the 4 cylinder is king. JLR is throwing too much surf against the wall to see what sticks.

That was one of the things that I was thinking before getting it. Not a lot have Jaguar but Porsche you see it all the time. I guess time to look at Aston.

Also are we overly worried about the "I have more cylinders than you" club ? Increasingly emissions and efficiency are being forced on all manufacturers going forward so if you can do the same of slightly less with a smaller higher efficiency engine then I guess we have to live with that. If they discontinue the V8 option, then maybe we can start to sharpen the pitchforks. The video claims that the lighter power unit offsets some of the reduced power so the performance numbers don't suffer too much. In the UK there were more fears that they'd put a diesel in it ;-)

Agree with economics perspective, however I would have hoped they went with a model or brand approach. E.g. the F-Pace, XE, and perhaps a XC (C class, 300 series) like model to fund the top shelf models R&D.

Watered down the marque and devalued the model...disappointing to say the least.

If they sold twice as many F-types because of this, I would still almost never see another one. This has absolutely nothing to do with my enjoyment of driving the car.

But they didn't lower the price. $59,900 is only $1500 less than a V6 w/ a stick.

I dislike 4-cyl, however I am not surprised. F-type is actually quite popular with both sexes, in my city of about 1 mil there about 10 F-types and 3 of them are owned by women. I would be surprised if they cared about 300hp vs. 500hp.

Future lineup likely going to be as follows - 300hp 4-cyl base, 400hp 6-cyl S and 600hp 8-cyl SVR.

Current US administration promised to roll back some of these. With luck, this will lead to 300hp Corollas getting 30MPG by 2020.

As a side note, am I the only one who thinks it sounds like a ricer with a fart can on it? Maybe better in person.

Upside to more F-Types on the road is that we'll get more aftermarket upgrade parts
