Default Upgrading reverse camera module

Is there any way to upgrade the reverse camera module? Coming from a 2014 BMW system, the quality of the camera is unacceptable, it's pixelated and the angle is weird, very hard to judge your distance to the curb.

Reading through some posts upgrading the infotainment system is a challenge and I'm generally fine with it, so would getting a camera module from a newer F type be plug and play? Or even better getting BMW module as I'm very pleased and used to it.

Thanks!

Sadly you can't upgrade to any OEM solution. The later camera modules have different wiring and connections, so you'll end up swapping out the whole entertainment system. The only option is to look to an aftermarket system.

Not impressed with the rear camera on my 2016. I think it's because it's such a small camera/lens. Why didn't they use the under boot lid camera like on all other JLR vehicles? The cameras on my 2011 XF, 2017 XE and 2017 Discovery sport are all far better.

If everything wasn't tied to the Head unit I'd change it to an apple/Android compatible system in a heart beat.

Do you think a car audio shop would be able to sort out the wiring if that's the only problem? Imma give it a shot when I bring it to the shop for possible audio upgrade.

The camera on my ‘16 is plenty adequate and crisp to keep me out of trouble. I just have to keep the dust and road spray cleaned off the lens.

Its not just the wiring. I know because I went through the challenges of adding a camera to my car. The first camera I picked up off ebay was from a 2017 car. It was one of the newer HD cameras and had a dual Fakra connection on the rear which meant it wouldn't connect to the single fakra connection on my wiring loom. (why there is 2 for a single video feed I have no idea !). This single fakra connection leads either to your head unit (Bosch system) or to the multi media module (Harmen Kardnen) system. Both of the these have a single fakra connection. So you are looking at swapping the whole entertainment system if you want HD on oem.

Best route is aftermarket if you want a better camera.
