On the Porsche plate for example, I just checked and saw 911 C available for £32450.00

My name is Jim, but I is not used so I have to be inventive, I opted for
X6 JYM and got it for a reasonable price.

Something a little more exclusive using my initials like JC 17 for example is available for only £147,560.00

Plates such as 11 JC or even 12 JC simply say ....Price on application

I don't even want to guess what JC 1 would go for, probably the price of a small Scottish Castle and estate I would imagine.

  • Venture capitalist Spencer Day was the successful bidder of 3 S in January 2009.
Mr Day said, "There's no better time than at present to invest money in personalised registrations."
"While I have no immediate plans to sell it, I am confident 3 S will give me a healthy return on my investment."
    (3 S sold for £94,000)

  • "In my mind, there aren't many registrations that can better 1 HRH. While bought as an investment, it will be placed on one of my cars," says the new owner who purchased the plate at auction in January 2009.
    (1 HRH sold for £113,815)

  • Better than money in the bank?
The new owner of S 1 obviously thinks so and says “I believe that number plates are a good investment, even at this price.”
This historic registration was sold on 19th September 2008 at Bonhams in Chichester for an auction record price of £404,000.

  • The registration number 1 D sold for £352,411.25 at auction on 25 March.
Lot 280, 1 D, was the star attraction at Ardencote Manor, Warwick with a reserve of £20,000 - the highest ever set at such an event.
With fees and taxes, 1 D's total cost will be £352,411.25, a sum that puts it at number 3 in the table of the UK's most expensive private number plates ever.
    (1 D Sells for £352K)

Dear Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

You will be pleased to learn that I am willing to sell you my State of Maine license plate 212 UN for the ridiculously low price of $1,000,000 US. ($1,104,545,203 South Korean Won).

Sincerely,
RickyJay52

S 1: What does that even mean? not worth anything to me. This is going the way of Dutch tulip bulbs. Some day the bottom will drop out.

S1 could mean Sucker1

I love your analogy to the tulip craze (mania) but with unlimited sums to spend on putting your mark and personalizing everything from a car to a building...and far beyond...that's not likely to happen in my opinion.

On the other hand I'm still waiting to hear from the UN Secretary-General about my generous offer to sell him my plate for the absurdly low price of $1,000,000. Unless forum members think I'm giving it away at that price?

I get emails from the UN all the time, telling me they need my help moving $10M. I'll let them know you're trying to reach them.

Your location is listed as Northeast, not Nigeria. (No offense to any Nigerian F-Type owners).

What's the penalty for driving around with replica plates? I'd probably just make some replica S1 plates and drive around with them. £404,000 should pay for a lot of tickets, impound fees, etc.

Exactly. Driving fun cars is the only way I stay sane. (well... and motorcycling)

I have been playing with combinations for personalized plates for my new car.

I suggested either of the following to my wife, but strangely, she vetoed them on the basis that "I can't drop one of the kids off at school with a plate like that!"

My wife (who loves the car by the way), just yesterday, suggested - being zenful - that a vanity plate (which neither of us desire) could/should read: NOTHING.

If I wanted a vanity plate, I like the idea of F-15 (which is available in my state and I think kinda cool).

Perhaps not the V6, but the V8 certainly is. An official atta-boy to Shift for figuring it out. (And you call yourselves car people )
