It's definitely a bit tight with the V8. The bottom bolt is relatively simple to access with the symposer removed (as shown below), but even my smallest 1/4" ratchet with the shortest hex bit wouldn't fit between the upper bolt and the coolant crossover pipe. I guess it's time to invest in an extra short bit set...

Anyway, it's a very nice piece of hardware and definitely an improvement the modified OEM part + a silicone plug I had there before.

I just installed mine and decided it was time to go whole hog. I removed the symposer almost completely. There is a stub of hose I left on the firewall horn and I left the actuator in place. In another thread someone noted that removing it generates a harmless code (no CEL) and I didn't want to be bothered by that.

I was tempted to enable it and record the transition from off to on that I found so irritating, but I'm glad I didn't. It seems that the local rodentia did their own form of symposer defeat and chewed through the small plastic hose between the actuator and the symposer itself.

Installation of the VAP piece was about 15 minutes. The rest of the process added about three hours, but good riddance.

I think that was me. I never reinstalled the useless actuator and haven't seen any issues other than the harmless code since 2022.

Ouch, I hope they didn't find anything more important to chew on!

+1, I like the sound much better without the symposer and there's so much more room to access the rear of the engine. The next improvement for me is to replace the monstrous OEM plastic wiring harness support with something more elegant. Currently experimenting with this one:

How do you actually close the hole between the engine compartment and the driver's compartment?
Thank you so much for all answers... BR Andi

Similar to the other post...I just made one from the original rubber hose and melted the cap with another piece of it and used the original clamp.. You cannot see this part when it is tucked away on the firewall.

I couldn't get the clamp off of the firewall end of that hose, so cut it off at a convenient spot (~3"), stuffed small roll of ensolite in it, and put on a cap I had in the workshop. I wanted to cap the piece directly but had wasted enough time on the clamp already and ran out of different pliers to try.

Sounds like something like this could work, if you can get a heat gun in there…

I used a plastic plug I had lying around, with some neoprene rubber tape for a snug fit, but I think
a simple silicone plug a simple silicone plug
would work too.

Symposer now completely removed (after just being blocked with the VAP blocker) . Additionally, metal heater pipes replaced the plastic ones....

Where does the firewall side opening lead to inside the cabin?

Can anyone speak to the change in sound from adding the delete? More natural, louder, etc.

Ray Ray the blue plastic part as posted above is called the trumpet on the forum. But Jaguar calls it "The Feedback Device".

So far all of us have plugged the trumpet from the engine side and left it in place. If totally removed you then would need to fill the hole in the firewall anyway. So it's seems to make more sense to just leave that part be. Plus it's not in the way of anything so no downside.

Check out this thread:

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/f...defeat-171035/

Defeating the symposer is a two-minute operation and just as easily reversible. You can judge for yourself at no cost. Removal of the symposer is more difficult, especially on the V8, but you get the benefits of defeating it plus the extra room at the back of the engine for service operations. DC (Therock88) started a thread about removal. Note that this predates the availability of this kit from VAP:

Thanks, I have some spring preventative maintenance coming up (SC removal, plugs, oil, belts, etc, etc, etc.) so it seems like a good time to yank it out.

If the SC is coming off that'd be the time to remove it. In the meantime, you can do the defeat and see what you think of the change in sound. I remember at least one person did not like the change, although most seem happy with it. I found the symposer particularly obnoxious, probably due to the manual transmission. It was really obvious when it switched on - modest acceleration, steady throttle, and then suddenly the disembodied drone appears.

I've been following this for years but don't really understand the issue. What difference would it make to my '14 V6S?
