Default Video Input : Success !

Hi All,

So following my previous thread, enquiring about wiring

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/f...-wires-184503/

At this point I was disappointed with infotainment system and the lack of video input on my jaguar, coming from a MMI Connect with VIM on my RS3

I got to thinking and plenty of trolling and reading on the possibility of replacing the factory head unit with an aftermarket android unit or replacing the factory unit with a different model JLR unit, I hit road block after road block and further investigation I decided to remove my head unit to see if an video aux input was available.

At this point I found out that my (South African) Version has a split unit with just a monitor and the balance of the infotainment under my hand-rest.

Which has a GPS / Video input using a FAKRA connector, this seemed like an opportunity as the camera can be activated in motion.....

So this is where the planning started. I wanted the solution that I created to be completely reversible so NO modifying factory items. The basic Idea would be there will be two video inputs, the rear camera and android device ( Mirrored Device )

1. Fakra connector / adapter cable - to cut into the signal of the VIDEO IN (CAMERA)
2. Switching adapter or cable kit to auto switch between camera engagement ( Reverse engaged ) and Video 2 - Android
3. Wifi Car Display...

These are the results thus far !!

Engaging the camera on the Jag infotainment brings up the CAR WIFI menu, using ANDROID mirroring or IOS mirroring or AIRFUN APP allows for multiple options from videos, internet, music and pictures.

The screen quality is fairly decent and I can now comfortable say that all the Jag review complaining about the rear camera, is exactly that... the rear camera and not so much the screen that's the issue.

All in all its a success, if anyone needs a HOW TO, let me know and if I get enough requests I will do a complete and detailed one.

Any questions, Just Hola !

Wow - impressive work.

I agree the EOM entertainment/media is lame, but I have settled for doing just about everything from my S8 phone. Coming from a 2005 CTS-V w/ no streaming, nothing, the F-Type being able to do just the basics has been enough for me.

Upset that Mr T is no longer on Waze though.

Can you provide me more information about cables and connectors that you used for radio head unit?
What kind of fakra connector i need to make same solution that you found?
if you have links for parts that you used kindly post it there.

I realize this is an old thread, but doing some search through the forums got me interested. What has the experience been so far? Still have the car/use the solution? Would love a step by step if one exists.\?

Would trade every bit of tech this car has for an oil pressure gauge.

+1.
This is what a proper dash board should look like.

Absolutely!

Or this.

Too bad it was only a 3 month car, a month or so in the spring and then maybe a month in the fall.

Can't really complain though . . .
