Default What car is most comparable to the F-type?

Not a F-type vs _____
I'm just wondering what you folks think the f-type is comparable to.
I think the Porsche offerings aren't really meant for daily driving, although they are quite good at it. They're just too bare bones IMO.
The M4 is a quiet practical DD sports car. As sporty as it is, I feel it was made with a different purpose.
Is it the Vantage? The SLK? Z4? Or do you disagree about the Carrera or M4?

The C63 can be compared to the M3. The Aventador to the Veyron. One may be better, but they have similar performance, comfort, reliability, styling aggressiveness and exclusivity. What do you think is the F-types peer?

Ninja Edit: My vote is the Ferrari California! Jk... I have no clue what it's like.

I would vote for the Aston Martin V12 Vantage. Both cars have roughly the same performanc, they're both really good looking and both are way out of my price range. However, the F-Type gets the nod IMHO because it's a lot cheaper and it's a much newer design.

I wasn't serious. I was testing gullibility and you fell hard!

The closest match is the Mercedes-AMG GT. Then the 911.

The Ferrari is also similar.

The M4 has nothing in common - it's a 2 door sedan.

Ohhh come on! I may not be able to tell a pot from a port, but I know my cars and I eat sarcasm for breakfast (seriously, the line about it being red didn't bother you?!??!). I grew up in the 90s, you'll need to put more effort into it :P

Wait, is this what I was supposed to fall for?
Good stuff!
hmm, good point regarding the GT, and I think the AM V12 is a good one too. I never thought of that, I just compared it to the V8S.

I'm terms of looks, the Maserati GranTurismo Sport

In terms of performance I agree with the Vantage characterization since the Maserati is a 2+2. I haven't driven the AMG GT obviously so I have no idea.

New Aston Martin GT, lowest priced AM. Porsche Carrera, not s or 4s because of price. And maybe M4, but a completely style of car. Mercedes SLK55 AMG, Autobahn dragster, but no finesse.

Why do you care?

Try to enjoy what you have rather than think about what you don't.

That's interesting. I also think the f type excels with the top down, but imo the salsa red is extreme in this regard.

I'll take that as a non-rhetorical question.
I like to talk about cars, and even with a brand new European muscle sports car, a rusty mustang has me twisting my neck to get a better look. Can't help it! I don't want another car, but I want to know them and drive them!

I got mistaken for a Ferrari California over the weekend...by a Ferrari California drive! The guy was coming towards me and suddenly flashed his lights. Normally people only do this for same car make/model/club. I think he must have thought I was a Cali.

For me, before pulling the trigger on the F-Type I took quick looks at Aston and Maserati (even though the MSRP might be higher they are older cars and you can get huge discounts off MSRP). For me, those are very comparable to the Jag in terms of style/design/performance/luxury/uniqueness. MB, BMW didn't enter the picture. None of their current models really have anything comparable. Porsche is definitely comparable but the one I wanted was out of my budget (GT3) and I didn't want to pay $30K for the next 911 upgrade w/ a 50hp bump. I know Jag positioned the F-Type as a 911 fighter but I really think it's a different market.

I agree with you. I test drove a lot of cars at Pebble Beach. Got to go through the hillsides and test handling and performance. At least a half hour with each. I test drove the entire BMW M line, AM Rapide, Maserai QP and stock 911. The Maserati was the only car I would have considered but the pricing, lack of a good dealership network and the fact that I had 3 Jags motivated me to go with the F convertible. I have had a number of classics in the past and the Jag is the only thing that comes close in the terms of fun. The car has a lot of personality. Unlike the BMWs and 911 I test drove. Best bang for your buck too. Andrew

Thanks for the replies!
I am surprised the F type was cross-shopped with the Maserati. I was considering their GT last year, but I'd pretty much forgotten about it when I got the F type. It's a beautiful car though! (And too expensive :P)

I'm surprised no one has said the Corvette Stingray yet. Similar performance, size and features. The interiors are actually pretty close as they both take a 1 + 1 approach and even have matching center grab handles.

Otherwise, the V8 Vantage in any configuration would be my pick.

I also vote for one of the Aston models, be it Vantage, Vanquish, DB9, GT and so on.
