Default What are these cut wires for ?

Hi All,

New to Jag, just bought myself a slightly used 2016 Jag Type R AWD with 6000kms on the clock....

So to the point... was looking around in the cockpit...(lol) for a spot to keep my sunglasses case and opened the center arm rest and boticed the space was too small, then between the seats there was a trim plate that I simply pulled on to reveal harnessing and cables....

To my horror, I see a pair of black cables that have been cut and left bare...

Taking the car back to the dealership to ensure this is sorted... the last thing I want is to loss my warranty for non disclosure and someone to assume I did this.

Please any advise on what these cables are for is highly appreciated.

Wires are middle left, two honking big black cables. They look like major power or grounding wires. I wonder, do you have the high end stereo, if not they could be for that, but given the current capability of those wires were it major you'd likely know it.

Took me a second too. Directly to the left of the blue plug, fairly thick gauge.

If you look closely, you will see they appear to be honking cables but actually just contain a large number of itty bitty cables. I had a look in my 2016 cubby but I don't have them and I also have the telematics module in there which this photo doesn't so I'm wondering if this is a market variation and because you don't have the telematics module, the wiring was truncated rather than leave a bunch of connectors waving in the breeze to rattle....

As others have suggested, if those were vital wiring organs, I think you might have noticed some other symptoms by now.

No OEM in their right mind would cut wires as part of vehicle to vehicle variation. Aside from the fact that this would be totally against best practice, its often cheaper to leave unused wiring harnesses or connectors in the vehicle that have someone remove them manually from the system.

My guess is that these wires were a part of some aftermarket electrical installation that was carelessly removed prior to vehicle sale.

The module in your photo is the Audio Head Unit, the connectors in three picture are the AM, FM, GPS, etc antennas. Those cut black cables are not part of the factory wiring for that module.

Those are most likely cables leftover from an aftermarket device that's been removed.

I just can't see those wires on my iPhone. When I opened the pic on my computer...whoa, what a hack job. +1 to Stohlen's comment: No OEM in their right mind...

The Reply from the sales rep from the dealership....

With regards to the sheered wires in the centre console, my head technician says that they would not have been cut unless they were not in use but they should have been cut right down. Would you like to bring the vehicle in anyway so that they can file a formal report on it for you?

Pray this is not a beginning of a Saga, but lets see how this plays out.....

Something seems off with that response. Does any know if all that electrical tape is oem? Seems haphazard for oem and do mfrs bundle wires that way? Sure seems aftermarket.

Can you take a photo ( or a good description) of which trim panel you removed to expose this heap of spaghetti?

Thx

Lots of low current wires in nondescript black insulation.

Some kind of additional security system?

Update : So took the car in to the dealership, They suspect the previous owner installed an after market AMP......WTF..... Anyway they will be keeping the car at the dealership for the next few days to trace the wires to be sure and to do possible clean up in that area.... Lets see what happens

It's pretty standard to do this. PVC tape is used for bundling virtually everywhere in these cars where the cables are fixed and not designed to move. Where they can move, contact trim panels (could rattle), or near connectors, fabric tape is typically used.

You would think plastic snap ties would be a better option.
