Default What winter tires for 2016 F-type R?

I've got my F-type arriving at the end of next month, just in time for winter... What do people recommend for winter tires? Should I have different (smaller) rims or just buy winter tires for the oem rims? Planning to drive it when it's cold and the roads are clear but not when there are ruts of snow on the roads.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Not sure where you're located, but with the AWD, I simply plan on driving it as is.

There are a LOT more options for winter (or all season) tires if you drop down to a 19" rim... Might be better to grab a second set and just swap them out for the season.

I'm in Calgary, Alberta, Canada and think that winter tires are pretty much mandatory. Would any 19" rim work (with, say, Bridgestone Blizzaks)?

as long as you don't have the Carbon Ceramic brakes, any of the factory 19" rims will fit.

The Bridgestone Blizzak LM32 is available at Tire Rack in OEM 19" sizes. I'm a huge fan and went through several heavy snow winters in Minneapolis with those tires on an M3. Deep snow was absolutely no problem.

I am not sure if you get them in North America (for a fair price), but have a look at Nokian Hakkapeliita (something like that, crazy name)

Am I limited to rims from Jaguar? In Canada I think that they're going to be $1,000 a corner!

You are going to have a hard time finding anything NON-Jaguar due to the bolt pattern and Center Bore diameter.

If you find anything else that fits, it might be more than Jaguar. Look for a pair that someone took off when they upgraded to 20"s, or perhaps find a pair of lightly scuffed ones...

PLEASE VERIFY THESE SPECS... These were pulled from a different thread, but the claimed 20" dimensions are:

Number of Bolts: 5
Rim Material:Alloy
Bolt Pattern:5x108
Rim Width: 9 FRONT / 10.5 REAR
Hub Bore:63.4
Rim Diameter:20
Rim Structure:One Piece
Offset:55 FRONT / 38 REAR

If you find aftermarket rims, you'll NEED the same bolt pattern, and Hub Bore, and be sure to check the offset...

There are a few aftermarket companies that make the 5 x 108 bolt pattern. A number of XF owners have aftermarket 19's and 20's. Mine on my XF are Savini's, custom bored to Jaguar 63.4. You can check with them on offsets and brake clearance for F types.

The Haakies are amazing snow tires and the best I've ever had. Hard to come by in NA, but they can be ordered. I'd be surprised if they had them in any of the F-Type sizes.

They are easy to come by in Norway (have used them on several cars in the past and they work very well), but I could not find them in any of the F-type sizes when I last checked.

Braelin out of Quebec has a few choices for the F-Type, you can pick them up on 1010tires for good prices. I put 19x8.5''(5/108 45 63.30) on all 4 corners to drop down to 245 wide. I recommend X-ice or Blizzaks as the Hakkas are hard to come by and if you get a flat in Feb/Mar the inventory is almost guaranteed to be gone.

Greetings bwc. I have my 2015 V6S just under a year and drove it practically all through last winter. In Maine. On the OEM P-Zeros. I should add, in case you're not familiar with the V6S, on the 19-inch Propeller wheels. I drove them through a long bitter cold winter - but rarely during a snow storm - and never had a problem. Of course I knew my limitations and drove according to the conditions at the time. I determined, with the help of this forum, that this year I wanted to not only drive it again all during winter, but push the envelope a bit more and, since almost all the roads I drive on get cleared quite quickly of snow, ultra-high performance all-seasons would fit the bill extremely well for me. Continental ExtremeContact DWS to be exact on another set of brand new wheels purchased from Mike at Midwest Wheel & Tire. I'm planning on swapping them out Nov 1 when I take my car in for its first scheduled service.

Good luck and welcome.

Thanks for all of the feeback on this. I called 1010tires and they said that they haven't tested the 2016 F-type R to confirm fit. Do we know if the ones you put on your vehicle will fit my 2016 F-type R?

If it makes you feel better, ask them if they can confirm they fit on a 2015 R, the wheels and brakes haven't changed sizes.

Unless you have the ceramic brakes they should, I have the V8S and as far as I know the brakes didn't change from V8S to R. You're best to speak to Braelin, as 1010tires customer support are useless but they have the best prices. I got the BR02s and they fit without a problem.

If a wheel fits the V8S, it fits the V8R (or even the base V6) without ceramic brakes. All Jaguar wheels from 18"-20" are interchangeable on all models with non-ceramic brakes.

I thought that the 18" wheels wouldn't fit over the "super performance" brakes (i.e. standard on the R)?

I don't think that's a problem, but could be wrong. I have a set of 18" Velas in my barn if anyone wants to test fit.

I have them on my XF with staggered 20''s but i'd check manufacturers website to see if they make f type widths. I went with 8.5 inch all around even on my 9.5 inch rear width wheels so I can rotate. If you buy dedicated wheels you can decide if you want to stay staggered or non for better winter performance. I used my oem wheels for winter and bought new wheels for summer. Best if you could downsize. My Hakkas were about $400 a corner.
