Default Wheel torque

Sorry if this is already posted, nothing came up on the search.

In the tire changing section from the owners manual it states 92 lb ft....which sounded like a lot for what seems to be a 7/16" stud.

Just re-checked...it's on the upper left hand corner on page 203.

The torque required will generally be a function of stud diameter and thread pitch. For example, the Gen 1 (2002-6) MINIs call for an 85 ft-lb torque where the Gen 2 & 3 (2007-present) MINIs call for 103 ft-lb. Though the bolt diameter is the same (17mm), they changed the pitch from fine thread to coarse in 2007, which is the reason for the torque change. The MINI mechanics that I have spoken to claim to tighten the bolts at 90 ft-lb regardless of year.

Hmm... Mk1 had M12 wheel bolts through to 2006, when the spec was changed to M14.

I upgraded my Mk1 S Works to the M14 bolts in 2008 when I fitted the Mk2 Works brakes (the Brembo 4-pots).

17mm is the size of the socket used to tighten the bolts.

Yes, bad brain day yesterday. I was remembering the wrong dimension. The only thing I got right was the pitch change which went from 1.50 to 1.25 when the diameter went from 12 to 14mm. Given the F-Type lug is 12mm, the 92 ft-lb seems reasonable.
