My '17 R convertible with 550 hp does 0-60 in 3.9 seconds, maybe a fraction slower being a vert.
Not sure if latest generation 2020 or 2021 are any quicker.
Come replacement time, maybe looking at latest C8 Vette, about $40k cheaper, only 495 hp, but much quicker at 2.9 seconds.
So how can the Vette with less hp, driving 2 rear wheels vs F-type's AWD, be that much quicker?
(Or how F-type with more hp, be that much slower...?)
1 second slower than 3 seconds is 33% slower?

 

Three reasons.
1. The F-Type weighs a lot more than the C8, especially the V8 AWD vert which is the porkiest F-Type of the lot.
2. The "official" JLR figure for the F-Type is very conservative, with a true time in good conditions and a good driver probably closer to 3.5 seconds.
3. The 2.9 second for the C8 seems to me to be a bit optimistic and the true time is probably closer to 3.2 seconds.

 

Mmm. Never thought of the F Type as porky.

In what kind of real world does a difference of one second in reaching 100kph from a stop matter?

 

Not much in the real world but mainly in the world of bragging rights.

 

Corvettes are fast, but they are still vettes. I like the new vette but if 0 to 60 is all I really wanted i would still own my '12 SLK55. Very fast in straight line, low 4's.

Beyond that, if you're buying a car based solely on 0-60 times, I've got no advice for you at all. That might not be the least of my concerns, but it's hardly the first.

 

I mean... it's complicated? HP is one of several factors when it comes to 0-60 times.

0-60 it is a misleading performance information. I never had a 0-60 race in all my life in normal streets
0-100, 1/4 mile are more important to understand the acceleration and the ability of overtaking other cars

The only real 0-60 database is Dragy. Everything else is talk. VAP Tuned F-Types times are faster than stock 2019 C7 ZR1 by a smidge and stock F-Types are faster than stock Z06s by a smidge.

 

You need maximum weight on the driven axle. Thats why 911s are so fast 0-60 even with less power.
Mid-endgined C8 would have a advantage here over F-Type I guess.

 

In our corner we have no salt lake city, and streets are not made for racing. We have every year, mostly in Germany some dead people because of some illuminated making racing in the city streets. If not killing themselves. But very often the victims are just passing by. So anyway the F-Type is NO RACING CAR.
If you want to make racing, do it on the track, with a valid pilot licence and you will hurt nobody. I made during some years karting sports. But when I drove home with the kart behind, I respected speed limits.

I’m sure I read that Ford got fined for saying the Mustang was quicker to 60 than it actually was. After that manufacturers were conservative in there times. Suppose this means the Corvette can actually do it in that time if not quicker!

 

0-60 was the last reason I bought a Jag. I just love the car.

 

Like others said, tested times for the R vert are actually around 3.4, but even 3.9 is hardly slow. The nice thing about these cars is that they put the power down very well and very consistently due to the AWD. Before my Jags (I’m on number 3), I had an M4 and it was a nightmare off the line. It would fishtail down the street if I got on the throttle too hard. The added weight of the AWD is the downside, but it’s worth it in my opinion, especially given the torque and wide power band of this engine.
