Winter Storage (Battery Tender Questions)
The current draw on my F-Type sitting in the garage is 300 milliamps. That is enough to deplete the battery in perhaps three weeks to a point when it is not doing the battery much good.
Anyway, I have worked out a way with help from this forum to maintenance charge it, so all good now.

I suspect you measured that draw before the car had gone into "sleep mode". During Covid mine stood unused for three months and started on the button after that tiime. It did give me a low battery warning but an overnight charge sorted that out and the battery is still going strong after nearly 9 years.
You may well be right. I just waited for the boot light to go out; I never even knew about a "sleep made".
Tell me, how long does it take for the car to go into sleep mode? And should I lock the car to enable it?

IIRC it takes about 20 minutes to go into sleep mode unless you double lock the car, then it takes about 20 seconds.
For this reason I always double lock, even when parked in my garage, as this helps prevent any battery drain problems.
AFAIK all Rest Of World (ROW) F-Types (ie non-North American) have double locking enabled so yours should too.
To double lock just hit the lock button or depress the door handle twice within 2 or 3 seconds.

You have been very helpful to me, thanks. I started my life as a motor mechanic, but things have changed a tad in 70 years. I am 86 now.
Just one more question, if I may be so bold, I never lock my car in the garage, does that impact on the sleep mode? Ie, do I have to lock it to make the sleep mode work?

Pretty sure the car will not go into sleep mode unless it is locked so yes you have to lock the car to invoke sleep mode.
If you unlock the car and then do not open a door or the hood or the boot/hatch within 40 seconds the car will automatically relock itself.
All this is explained in the Owner's Handbook, when all else fails RTFM!

Yes, I have read the handbook, but after you mentioned "sleep mode, I read it again to find anything about it. But I couldn't find anything on it.
And I have read the section on "locking". My car doesn't lock automatically; I read that it needs to be done by a dealer. Obviously, the previous owner has had that function disabled. I don't care, I am happy to lock if I want to. But I will lock it overnight to activate the "sleep mode".
Thanks again

I’d have to disagree with this. I never lock the car when in my garage, and it always goes to sleep. Trevor, I’m not sure there’s anything in the owner’s handbook about this, and Jag probably doesn’t call it ‘sleep’ anyway.
On second thoughts I agree, and nothing in the Owner's Handbook about this.
Fun (but really annoying) fact, if you set a wakeup time, that 72 hour window reduces quite a bit - I've been unable to remote start my car after 3 days when I've set a wakeup time for a few days more than 4 after shutiing off the car. Oh, and the wakeup time has to be set within 48 hours of using the car..

This. The car will go to sleep even if it is unlocked. It just takes longer.
Finally, with the help from you guys and girls, I have hooked up my maintenance charger to my car. I had the battery checked this morning and found it is only 88%. That is why my charger keeps trying to get it up to 100%. So it is a new battery for me. My 2016 F-Type only has the single battery and it the original battery, 10 years old.
Our battery man says the car will cope without a battery connected for a short time and the cars functions will work fine. But I need to hear it from those that know Jaguars.
Is he right, or do I need to hook another battery in line. If so, where?

There is no problem disconnecting the battery, for as long as you like. The car may forget the calibration for the auto-up window function, but resetting that is easy and the procedure is in the manual.
Ideally, a code reader (or the dealer) would reset the BMS, so that it knows it has a new battery. It eventually figures it out - I did not perform this reset when I replaced the battery in my car 5 years ago and have had no issues.

I fitted a new battery to my F-Type some 18 months ago now and zero problems. The old battery was the original and over 10 years old but I connected it to a maintainer when parked up in the garage for the last seven or so years of it's life.
I did not reset the BMS as my iCarsoft LR v2 refused to do so, it failed every time I tried, my guess is because I removed the secondary battery many years ago.
Not to worry, never had any BMS or battery problems, pretty sure the BMS reset itself after a few on/off cycles anyway.
One tip - I had learned from this and other Jag forums that before you connect a new battery you should wait at least 20 minutes after removing the old battery, to allow all the modules to drain of charge and reset, otherwise you risk electrical system problems. So that is what I did and hey presto, no problems.

There is one problem - don't shut the boot/trunk! Or you'll be back begging us to tell you how to get it open again.
