All this debate about new vs used I find ironic, as the one and only brand new car I ever bought was my very first car, which I bought before I even had a leaner's permit yet alone a licence. After that one my next two cars were dealer demos - near new but used - and after then I have bought only two to three years old cars for waaaay cheaper than a new one would have cost.
I never had any major problems with any of them and to me the massive savings were well worth not getting my perfect spec.
I bought my 20 month old F-Type in near new condition for $100,000 less than it cost new, with 16 months of the three year factory warranty still on it.
There are merits to both approaches and I have bought many 1-2 year old cars at a significantly lower price than new and I have also bought plenty of new cars and got great deals - plus I have purchased at least three that were brand new body styles so there was no used option at the time. That said, even though I have had generally good luck; no major issues, they aren't perfect, but neither is a new car. My last new audi ended with a n out of court settlement; more due to the dealer, but the car did have issues. Like others have said, if you want new, and have the means, knock yourself out and if you want to save a few bucks and don't mind waiting, good for you too. As I said previously and someone else echoed, its all about you and your situation etc. For me, I didn't need another car at all, but I liked the F-type - found a couple configurations I liked and waited a while until I found exactly what I wanted and got it at a borderline-ridiculous price. I love the car, but I'm also in a situation where I could list it for sale tomorrow and likely get all my money back (or at least enough that the ownership was super cheap). For me that's important; being able to liquidate if needed - you never know what could happen - life situations, pandemics, or having a dream that I bought and Aventador and contacting a Florida dealer first thing this morning to buy one. Best of luck with either path.
Well I can't speak exactly to the 2021 model, I just turned in my six cylinder Jaguar F-type that I had brand new since 2017 on a lease. It was an absolutely fantastic car! I wish I still had it. There were no mechanical issues. The only issue I had was a headlight surround light went out. The dealer replaced it for free in about an hour. The service is always been fantastic. Test drive the Porsche in the F-type. You see zillions of Porches out there. F-types a little less common. My God was it a fun car.
I noticed this about the wheels as well. When I get to the end of the configurator, there are a number of additional wheels available for purchase in the ‘Wheel Accessories’ section.
Beware that not all wheels are available to all models. Some depend on the break callipers and type of car.
@jetsetter883 , did you make up your mind in the end?
About depreciation and making a reasonable choice, well, buying such a car is never reasonable. It costs a lot, it's bad for the environment, it's not (that) practical etc. I own as a family car a hybrid Volvo XC60 that may be faster than the Jag! the suspension is more confortable, it's easier to drive, seats are a treat and I get 35km of smooth electrical driving in the city. I get to park in designated charging spots usually located in conviennent places etc.
If you want to get value for your money, then everybody agrees that a Porsche will give you more. But then you look like every other guy that succeeded in life by making the right choices. You'll look good, 911 are very good looking cars, the Targa especially is very stylish.
But what you get with a Jag is incomparable. You get style, you get the British Gentleman elegancy. You won't be just another guy in a Boxter, you'll be a Gent, riding one of the most beautiful cars ever made.
As for the car's look, it is of course taste and colours... First of all, did you decide yourself on the coupé or the cabriolet? The coupé has just the perfect shape, it's simply gorgeous. For long I couldn't imagine getting the convertible, yet my wife and the dealer convinced me to drop the roof. I don't regret it, as in the end you'll get more pleasure driving it than looking at it. And if you go for the cabriolet, then try to add contrast between the colour of the roof vs the paint. I got a Carpatian grey with a red roof, and the difference in shades makes it look very nice. I generally love blue colours, but Navy + black roof doesn't step out enough.
I actually first tested the F-Type in a 2020 blue + black roof, 2L, not R-dynamic and 19" wheels. It was a real bargain, I could get a new car (only 1500km) with almost 3 years warranty, plus an extra set of wheels mounted with winter tyres. The price was very low for this spec. But the colour was not appealing, I could't feel the call for that particular model. In the end I went for an older, more Kms, 6 grant more expensive, less confortable (the 20" do make the ride rougher), but more specs (I love tech) and jaw breaking colour choice.
My point being that this car does not appeal to your reason, it appeals to your senses. You are buying emotions, so for this kind of purchase, ditch the figures, go for what really drives you.

I don't always make choices that are practical, but I always research and spend some time comparison shopping and getting the most value for the dollar - whether that is the car or aftermarket parts. Not saying you're wrong, its your money and you can do as you please, my point is that I found the exact spec car I wanted at a crazy price - I could have easily said "I spent $6500 less than I thought so I'll buy whatever aftermarket parts at any price", but I have methodically purchased what I wanted and worked to get the best deals on each thing - not to the point where the time doesn't justify the savings, but enough to know I am getting the most out of every dollar. I love cars and working on them and modifying them is a hobby - not a cheap one either, but regardless of how much I like it, it has to make some sense and some purchases or modifications wont be recovered and can hurt resale as some people are risk adverse and paranoid that adding an air freshener voids the warranty (extra curb weight resulting in premature differential failure). Id love to keep my F-type forever, but I realize I likely wont so like it or not, resale is a consideration for many owners. That said, I have modified every care I have ever owned, some heavily, and have not had issues selling any of them. Maybe a function of luck and decent planning (tasteful and good quality mods), but I also don't drop my cars at Creative Bespoke and leave a $100K check to build a one-off car that I'm scared to drive because all the parts were prototypes.
OP here. Just wanted to provide an update that I did end up ordering the ‘21 F-Type in Carpathian Grey which is scheduled for delivery toward the end of the month.
Potentially strange question.. I had originally ordered the car with red calipers but they somehow didn’t include them in the original order and just said that they could paint them red once the car arrives. While I do like the red a lot, part of me is now wondering if the red somewhat 'distracts' from the overall beauty of the wheel and if I should just stick with the black. Of course, I could always purchase the car as-is (with the black calipers) and potentially get them painted down the road.
Below are a few pics I found online. What do you guys think?

As a Stones fan my advice is paint it black! Leave 'em as they are and see if you can live with them. As you say, you can always get them painted later if you want.
I am a Porsche fan and have had a couple 911's in my recent past. Although the Porsche don't take the depreciation hit like Jaguar I still wouldn't purchase a Porsche new either and clearly wouldn't purchase an F Type new. The F Type takes a beating and unless you can justify it or just have the money to burn I wouldn't buy new. Mine was 50% of new and only 11,000 miles and I am sure I will take a beating selling my used R that I just bought. I sure couldn't personally justify the extreme depreciation and hoping I love the ownership of the R as much as I did my 911's.

My 2019 is that color, I settled, I should have waited for BRG. I was exploring a full repaint, but settled on getting it wrapped next week. If you like it is all that matters.
I had a black C7 with black wheels and I really liked the red calipers on that car, but for your car, I think I am with scm.
Either way, you are going to love this car. You do have to be prepared for some attention. It must be something like driving an exotic.
Actually, based on sales numbers, in the USA people are more likely to encounter a Ferrari than an F-Type. And Corvettes? Chevy sells more of them in a good year than the total of all F-Types sold here. Your '21 will be even more unique - one of a few hundred cars.
