Default WTF: my 2015 R doesn't have a service warranty

Just went to go get my 2nd service and my dealership wanted 492 for basically an oil change and a pollen filter swap.

2016 includes the service as I guess everyone but me knew. The 14 and 15 didn't.

How many services are included and how much is that service warranty worth in terms of actual dollars? Should I have bought a 16 instead?

Like everything in life, there's no free lunch. The cost of the 'free' maintenance is built into the price of the car. It's not a warranty in any sense of the word.

Next time, DIY or let your indy do it for a much more reasonable price.

Well, the elite care might save a couple thousand dollars, but getting a 2016 very likely would have made the initial purchase more expensive by more than that much.

Don't worry about it. You saved about as much on your car than the included service is worth over the 4 years.

You're right, I paid 72 for my 15 and an equiv 16 would run me 87 or 15 more.
I'd get 4wd and service.

The dealer said to do a oil change you need a sickroom secco because f's have no drin plug. So much for dyi.

For no more than $60 you can get a top of the line manual suction pump/tank and connect it to the same tube under the oil fill cap that the dealer connects to. Jag specified oil about $11/liter and OEM filter about $25. Used oil goes to the county operated recycle transfer station. DIY now much easier than in the olden days when you had to roll around on the ground. Oil filter is now on top of the engine! How great is that?

What he said above.

The 4-year, "free maintenance" pkg that began on 16 models is worth about $1500 if done at the dealer, since 14-15s also had the 1st annual visit free. Everything other than oil changes and the "annual inspection" is covered under new car warranty. Big deal.

.

Heh heh, for that matter, even the actual 'manufacturer defect warranty' is built into the price of the car, paid for by the consumer. The corporate actuarial types forecast an average warranty expense of xxx-dollars per car and that obviously enters in when arriving at a final price.

At the end of the warranty period they might be ahead of the game on any given car. Or not.

In theory, if the factory warranty could be declined by the buyer, the selling price would be lower.

Cheers

Are you sure the F-type (both V6 and V8) does not have a drain plug?

You can find/buy them "all over" the nett, and on my last service (at a JLR dealer) the detailed invoice included a new drainplug as a part of the oilchange.

The technical specifications for the MY2104/2015 V8 says:

SAE 0W-20 engine oil meeting specification STJLR.51.5.5122

I think it is Castrol EDGE extended performance 0w-20 that were used on my last service (by JLR), but I suggest you see what others answeres as this is just from my memory.

The handbook says "engine oil refill and filter change: 7.25 litres / 12.8 pints (all vehicles).

ps: in the handbook I also saw that it says "Jaguar recommends Castrol Edge Professional"

Mmmm, that's strange?

All F-Types have drain plugs in the sump, Arne spotted that. Maybe worth changing dealers!

Yes they all have a drain plug, but the belly pan has to be removed to get at it. Almost impossible without a real real lift. The suction tube was installed to make this an easy bit of maintenance.

Yes, this is the only oil to state that it meets the JLR spec:

Note: This is an SAE E 0w-20, not simply an SAE 0w-20

Yup sucks! Not to derail but when I spoke with the dealer who originally sold the car to get all of the service info (they even told me how many times it had been detailed ) they also told me when the car was sold by the original owner to a Jag dealer that Jag put it through the Certification Process but the car went out to auction so it was never CPO'd. Kind of sucks but such is life.

My 14 is up for it's 3rd oil change (13k miles) soon and I'm having the dealer do it only because it's still under warranty. I am familiar with Moss Magnuson but prefer to have them do this one and the next before it runs out of warranty late 2017.
