AutoEnginuity scan tool with Jaguar enhanced or IDS.
I Agree that you can't program modules and I agree that it's expensive (and even overpriced)but it does more than read and clear generic codes and Jag specific codes. I did the same as you and ponied up for SDD.
AE also does the following, so a bit more than a $5 tool. I have no skin in the game and don't care who buys what, just providing information:
Service Functions:
Injector Coding (2.0L)
Brake Sensor Setup
Display Last Alarm Activations (SLM and GEM)
Display Fuel Adaptation Tables
Fuel Adaptation Monitor
Electronic Parking Brake Release To Service (SType / VPD / XF / XJ)
Front And/Or Rear Light Calibration (ADHLS and HCM)
Reset TCM Adaptations (most models)
Yaw and Lateral Accelerometer Calibration
Reset ABS Configurations
System Self Test (SType Only GEM, REM, DDM, PDM)
EVAP Leak Test (some ECM variations are not currently supported)
Driver and Passenger Glass Window Calibration (XF / XJ)
Battery Replacement (XF / XJ)
Fuel Prime (XF / XJ Petrol / Diesel)
Clear Adaptation / Purge Self Test (XF / XJ Petrol)
Particulant Filter Fuel Related Component Replacement / Reset (XF / XJ Diesel)
Service Reset (XF)

I have just looked a the license on the program of ids/sdd 1.30.
The licence states that it belongs to the firm/individual who originally purchased it and that it cannot be transferred to another. Therefore the login and password that come with the program is dodgy
The later versions of the programs that are available on the internet for example 1.43 come with a crack to overcome the login and password.
I am not perfect person but if the program ever gets access to the internet by mistake. Then it is possible to find your ip number and hence you.
If there is a document from Jaguar that frees the program then no problem. I have to be careful because of our of jobs we have to be checked to see if we have criminal records.
Concerning the price of AEI find it is reasonable when you consider how much research must have done to make it function correctly and considering the price of tools such as snapon etc of being around 10,000.
Alll it has to do is save me going to car workshop for 3 hours to repair a small fault or having to throw a few bits at the car to try and fix a fault that my elm can not read.
Everybody can form their own opinion but to say negative things about something that they have not tried or used is not helpful.
It is up to us where and when we spend our money. I have just looked on ebay for a wds and the only one there is going for 650 plus 130 p&p euros and it not working.
If I buy a mongoose and it is sent by international post from china, I have to go the local Customs office to pay the taxes and show them what I have bought. If they find it to be a clone it is taken away and you still have to pay for all the taxes and fine.

That is very insulting of you and I dont understand why you have written this.
1. I live in Germany.
2. I am not German But British.
3. There is nothing about me trying to dictate to anybody what they should do. There is still a freedom of choice for everybody.
4. I wanted to hear from people with experience of this scanner as it is not a common device in Germany.
5. It is American laws on the copyright of these program and I have no interest in being in an American court of Law or paying a fine in America.

The TUV is an Organisation which is used by the police to check on many things here they do not just deal with emissions of cars. They are a quality control Organisation such British standards. They are legally bound to report infringement as they are an Organisation which goes around trade shows checking for copyright.

Ok Now I understand.
They can be big time pain where the sun does not shine. I imported my jaguar from Italy and a major problems with registering it here in Germany. First it was not in their computer so they type on the paperwork that I needed for the registration incorrect information.
This meant when I went to register it they refused saying it was not allowed on the road and i would have to go back and get all of the paperwork done again (a bill of couple of hundred euros).
It was only after I phoned Jaguar customer service who wanted to speak to the little idiot directly. They asked him for the fax number and sent him all of the paperwork that was required plus quite a lot more. it was quite a big package that he had to go through.
1 hour later my car was registered.
if you dont drive a German car you can have a lot of problems. When I try to get spare parts for excample they go on a six figure code that is given by the Goverment/TUV and it does not include sub models or even facelifts. I needed front shocks and I was sent the ones for the 2000 model 3 times by the same firm even though I had sent them back and told them which ones needed.
It does not matter what German firms such as Volkswagen do but the small man is always get the short end of the stick. So it is better to keep the nose clean and not cause so many waves.
I had a motorcycle accident caused by diesel being on the road at a roundabout even though it was not my fault that I came off the bike, when the police came they spent twenty minutes checking that everything was legal on the bike. (which it was except for my mirrors being too small, Yes he measured them).
Fines for pirated copies of programs can be up to five years in prison, a single song can cost 10,000 and yes they have charged people that much. Why do you think that Mega Download boss left very quickly for New Zealand.
I know a mother of a 16 year child that has a criminal record because she pleaded guilty to the fact that she had downloaded and up loaded a film even though it was her son so that his record was kept clean.

Generally AE is (well, was when I looked) read-only - it does not program modules or even options within them.
It's quite easy to use but nothing like a dealer tool.
I decided not to upgrade mine, partly because it's over-priced.
If I wanted to do the sorts of things mentioned I'd get WDS / (non-clone) IDS. (Well, I might instead just pay an indy.)
However, those tools are what I'd call user-hostile... Very painful if used hardly ever. Easy to use in a way not intended.
I've not wanted to reprogram any modules or features and probably most users also would never need to do that.

That being said, in my opinion, WAY too pricey for what it does.
