Connector
Does anybody know the correct name for that connector thing that connects the headlight bulb to the wires my connector had melted the metal insertion part solid. I was using sylvian headlight bulbs but looked around that they dont last long on xtypes. So if anybody can tell me what the name is and how to put the brown and yellow(?) wires in back to the plastic white connector it would be a great help!
I would call it a "connector". Not being a smart a$$ but what else could you call it? Yes, they have a tendancy to melt. If your connector has melted, you won't want to reuse it. No, Jag doesn't supply just the connector. But, you can make your own or get the "fix" perhaps from Ken or someone on the site. Search under the X-Type or FAQs and there will be a thread about it. In my '02 I believe yellow wire was to the bulb and brown to ground but I can't remember for sure.
jessy, mohrd is correct, it is simply called a connector. The parts stores (if they can get it), will call it a headlight bulb connector. Should be able to look up a connector for any vehicle that uses the same style bulb. Nothing special about it. May want to consider simply getting some of the 14 gauge (yellow) female spade connectors and use those instead of the connector. Then all you have to do is remember the yellow wire is on this side, brown wire on this side.
Jessy, if you are going to build your own, connect the power wire to the male spade of the bulb. The ground wire can be connected to the male spade that is part of the bulb socket unit where the bulb clips in. Works like a charm and no more melted connector.
