Considering a 2016 XE- heard about Jaguar reliability issues
HI,
So I was looking at an Octavia, then considered something more plush- Mazda 6, Merc, BMW and now Jaguar.
My only concern is people mentioning reliability issues in general with Jaguar & the amount I'd spend on repairs & pointed to the infamous Driver Power customer satisfaction survey where the Jaguar XE was rated 71st out of the top 100 cars in their 2019 Driver Power customer satisfaction survey.
So this is a real concern and something to bear in mind?
Thanks,
Pa.

European cars are pretty similar in their reliability. What is a problem with the up-market makes is the price of spare parts. These can be eye-wateringly expensive. The other thing is where to get servicing and repairs done, On the East and West coasts of the US you'll usually have no problem, it is the middle of the US where you may have difficulties, so do some due diligence on this before making your mind up.
Oops, sorry, I see you're in Galway in the RoI ! I doubt there are many, maybe no, Jaguar specialists where you live. There may be a main agent, but be aware their labour costs are high.

With any used Jaguar, the main reliability concern is more that of the previous owner(s) than the vehicle. Strictly observing maintenance schedules is essential and any gaps in the history should be treated with suspicion. A neglected Jaguar is often a money pit and the reason used prices can be so attractive. The advantage is that well maintained examples are tarnished with the same reputation and the secret is to find one of the latter.

Thanks for the replies. Any thoughts on this please?
Has a full Jag service history, it's old at 2015 but mileage is low. (I prefer the interior of the XE to the XF and don't need the extra space so going for an XE). I'd prefer an automatic but none within my budget atm.
or this one? https://www.carbuyer.co.uk/reviews/jaguar/xe/r-sport
Thanks,

Does the UK/NI registration without verification on the 2015 XE 2.0D not cause possible import difficulties to the Republic?

I've read the rules; sorry for posting links to car ads.
1 car I'm looking at is a 2015 XE 2.0D Privilege (leather, electronic seats), 68,700 miles (111k km), manual diesel saloon, 1 previous owner, NCT inspection due 2023, price €16,995 (but should get something off it)
Has a full Jag service history, it's old/2015 but mileage is decent
Does that seem fair price for the year & mileage?
What are the main things to look out for, check please?
Thanks,
Pa.

One owner with a full Jaguar service history is definitely a combination to go after.
I see Lyons of Limerick are the only JLR dealer on the west coast so a reliable independent for servicing and repairs need to be a serious consideration unless you are DiY otherwise an electronics fault could land you in expensive trouble.
Best place to ask about regular issues is the X260 forum.

I looked at the 2016 car in red and see that it has had the timing chain done. This is an issue that is affecting Ingenium engines around 70-80k miles, so it's good news as you would not have to worry about that. It took Jaguar until 2019 to correct this issue. Shame on them !
You haven't told us the mileage of the 2015 car. This will be quite an early car as they only went on sale in April 2015. My experience with a 2003 XJ6, (the first of the aluminium saloons), is that there will be bugs, and if they're not sorted out in the warranty period, they tend to be left for the next poor guy to sort out, (me !!). Would you be getting a warranty with either car ?
My own 2017 XE has been going well since I bought it in January 2019, with virtually nothing of note, apart from sterring wheel shake under braking shortly after I bought it. This was fixed under goodwill, I also found one of the folding rear seat release cables had broken off its mount and this was replaced under the Jaguar warranty. Since then the car has been pretty much perfect since. However, what with the Covid19 pandemic, I haven't been putting the miles on it. Normally we would have gone on holiday to Germany twice and done about 3000 miles each trip. Current miles is 33k. Front tyres were replaced early this year at 30k, and rears still have some miles left in them, probably 10k miles. So it doesn't eat tyres, but then I'm not going round bends on two wheels in it ! I also make sure oil and filter is replaced every year or 10k miles, as the Jaguar recommended interval of 21k miles or 2 years is far too long. This may even explain the timing chain problem. Sometimes engineers are a bit too clever for the good of the customer.
I'm sure you'll like the car whichever one you buy of the two. Apart from the electronics, any good garage should be able to do normal servicing and repair work, no problem.
