catdreams, the best way I know of to identify engines is via the block numbers. On the 3.0L motors, if you look at where the tranny bolts up to the motor, up near the heads you will find a number stamped into the block. That will tell you what year the block was made and also the specifics of the block (from a Ford, Jaguar, etc). With the other blocks, the numbers may move around a little bit in their location. But, once you get that number, you can find out all sorts of information and all the goodies that may be hidden inside the sealed block. I don't know of a single site that will have all the numbers that you are after. Is there a particular project that you have in mind? Maybe that would help me lead you to a desirable block to start with. Then it would be a matter of finding a year car that the block was used in.

Most of the 3.0L motors for Jaguar (and Lincoln) will be around 200 hp. If you go with the Ford version (same block, but SOHC), you are down around 150 hp.
