Default Headlight upgrade

I recently purchased a headlight conversion kit for my 85 XJ6 Here is my issue there is a difference in the thickness between the lights the original glass headlight has a very thin edge for the trim ring to go around the new ones are at least 2x's the width so the trim ring won't seat properly in order to screw them back in I was thinking of just using longer screws. Ideas?

OK you have a typical upgrade problem. In this case if you think the number of screws is sufficient to properly locate & hold in place the new headlight then YES try longer screws (preferably stainless). Trying this out will cost little in time & only pennys for longer screws.
If everything then looks fine to you - problem solved.
If not, & I fear this is more likely, you just will not be able to use the new headlights. Seek to return & buy with greater care a different upgrade set.
Good luck

I'm not sure how to do a DIY realignment with any precision.
But for a rough first approach you could get an idea of the pattern of an aligned vehicle against your closed garage door or a plain wall that's close by.
Then place your jag in the same position & adjust until the headlight pattern is about the same.
It's worked for me but as I say it's a rough approach!
Can you say in what way the headlight upgrade you selected differs from the standard: higher wattage, different colouration, different beam spread ????
Good luck.
