Exclamation How to use the shopmanual

Could someone please explain how to use the download shop manual. First of all the table of contents goes on for days. Okay, I get it, Jags are very complex. So I scroll down about 29 pages and finally find some place I think I need to go to get an answer. In this case I am simply trying to find the location of the Rear Electronic Module. I'm working on my fuel system so it says (29 pages down) " 310-01: Fuel tank and lines"... Great! So without any numbers on the pages themselves I go by the counter at the top of the page. I scroll down to page 310 and hmmm... what's this? "Attaching the brake cable" Well that wasn't it.
So I scroll further down page 29 and find this "Fuel Pump Module (19.45.08) - V8 4.2L Petrol/V8 S/C 4.2L Petrol/2.5L NA V6 – AJV6/3.0L NA V6 - AJ27, VIN Range: M45255->N52047". What does all that mean? 10.45.08 ? I get the V8 4.2 L Petrol...bla bla bla part. And what does AJV6/3.OL NA mean. I also get the VIN Range but where in this HUGE manual does it tell me where the REM is and most important, How do you read those numbers in the Table of Contents?

You must be using some kind of PDF document Workshop Manual without page navigation?

The usual one is a program and you just click. Not a great program, but survivable.

Yes, I am using a PDF document workshop manual. Is there any other way to even view this online? I don't need to print it out but it would be nice to be able to find the things the table of contents lists. The numbers don't make any sense and there's no page numbers on the pages. Scrolling down doesn't match the numbers on the top.

Use the edit menu. In the drop down menu, you will see "FIND" click it and type in key words and it will search the document for you. You can start with module and it will take you to the various ones and you just keep click next.
I use both JTIS and PDF manuals. Find is a great tool for pdf.

Steve; I thought I had answered this same query of yours in another thread . . . perhaps I am mistaken or perhaps I did not make matters clear. Here goes the same explanation again . . .

There are some PDF versions about that apparently have no navigation options . . . avoid like the plague! The version you want has "bookmarks" available via a breakout menu on the LH vertical screen margin. Click on the little black triangular nav arrow to open a hierarchical tree menu of all the chapters/sections. Click on the Electrical section; then expand further until you find the listing for the subsection of images for Control Module Locations; then click on that and it will jump you immediately and directly to page 1200 or 2000 or whatever on your page counter. Because of this "navigate & jump" feature, the use of printed page numbers is entirely unnecessary.

Check to make sure you have the correct page for your variant (RHD or LHD etc) . . . and there is your answer.

Okay, thanks Ken.... but where and how do I find this other version? The shop manuals I've found are frustrating. I think they are the ones you said to avoid like the plague. Thanks for the tip.

Hmmm; went to Stickies but could not find download I expected . . . but this one which I have attached. It shows the bookmarking I referred to, and sure enough, there is a drawing showing your REM.

Suggest you do what I did some years ago . . . hit eBay, search Workshop Manuals for S-Type Jaguar and buy all and more on DVD. Cost to me then was about AU$10 and DVD held thousands of pages of all manuals and all electrical diagrams.

They're in the S-Type forum. This is not the S-Type forum.

Start at the site top and have a look.

BTW the real workshop "manual" is a program and is arguably better than the PDF.
