I just uploaded an STL file to Thingiverse.com for a license plate mounting insert. This is the little plastic piece that clips into the oval hole where you mount your license plate.
My 1990 XJ-6 had no easy way to fasten a license plate to the trunk. I could use a nut and bolt, but holding the nut in place while inserting a bolt was difficult. I had ended up using some wire to temporarily mount the plate.
I designed a 3D printed insert that would just snap into place and take a normal license plate screw. I just mounted my plate a few minutes ago and it's on there securely.
Thanks for this. Don't need them for the rear but it appears that New Mexico will require front plates now so may need them for the front. When I repainted my bumper I had them fill in all the holes so this should be interesting
