Default Limp mode question...

03 x type 2.5 awd

Ok so I just purchased the car and have not taken delivery on it yet... possibly the World's cheapest jag lol. The guy bought it from his brother, because he just wanted the wheels, otherwise it had just been in his way... He listed it to part out, sell or trade. I bought this whole car minus the wheels, for $200 usd (yes, not a typo. two hundred dollars.) So... I'm not going to complain about anything that's wrong with it, as she's a project and needs wheels, a battery, a bit of body work, and i honestly don't know what else. But I'll post more as time goes on and i get into her, beginning to end progress.

Anyway... back to the question at hand... based solely on what the guy told me, his brother cut the cats out and ran straight pipe. But he did not replace the o2 sensors. He said it runs and drives, but since the brother straight piped it, it's been in limp mode. Other than replacing the cats and o2 sensors, because right now that's out of my financial ability, what can i do to get it out of limp mode?

I edited it in your original post. You'll have to change that Gaelic spell checker!

Before throwing money at repairs, having the codes read will confirm exaxctly what is causing the limp home mode. Likely to be connected with the exhaust change but it could be transmission related which would get very expensive to fix.

Miss.KIttie, the lack of O2 sensors is what is putting the car in limp mode. So, until you get those installed, the car is going to be in limp mode. I guess you could see about getting an O2 simulator tool and using that to trick the car. But, you would need 4 of them (2 upstream and 2 downstream. But, that will probably cost you close to what the new exhaust is going to run.

Good Morning to you too.

Grab a copy of the Jaguar code lookup - online decode descriptions are often very misleading with Jaguars.

Jaguar used to publish the decode lookups separately; now they are part of the Workshop Manual. The manual for your model can be downloaded here:
