I have heard this term 'Limp mode' many times in this forum... I guess fortunately I have not experienced this. Can someone explain what exactly is limp mode and explain some reasons why it will to into this mode and what happens once in this mode? Drivability etc...

Thanks
Joe

Joe, "Limp Mode" is a protective strategy Jaguar incorporated into the engine to give you the chance to get the car to a mechanic or a safe location while the car has a problem that can lead to bigger issues.

You will know that you are in this mode as the engine will not rev past 3,000 RPM and you will notice that the engine will have very little power (only allows the throttle to go to 30% open). You will also see an accompanying message about "restricted Performance" or "Drivetrain Malfunction" (or something along those lines). It will also tend to light the check engine light and if the condition is such that it can lead to engine damage, it will flash the light at you.
