I have a Denso Navigation system which is using the 2002-2003 Map DVD (464210-5220).

I acquired a new genuine 2007-2008 Map DVD (464210-9610) but while the Map disk is recognized it fails to load. The Navigation system goes from “Insert Map DVD” to “Reading Map DVD” and remains stuck indefinitely.

I think the problem is that the DVD Rom Player needs a Firmware update which includes code to allow the reader to properly handle a Duel Layer DVD.

Can anyone tell me where I might find the firmware update for the Denso Navigation system?

For reference purposes and because the finding information on this subject has been so hard I include the following which I believe to be true statements:

The 2006-2007 Jaguar Denso Navigation Map DVD may have included firmware code update code which made it possible for the DVD Reader to properly handle the Duel Layer media. Some reports suggest that this firmware was on a separate CD included in the 2006-2007 Map packages.

Making Copies of Map DVD’s is not possible for a typical consumer because the original DVD’s are recorded using PTP (Parallel Track Path) rather than OTP (Opposite Track Path). Standard PC burners will only record OTP. However if the Firmware update was on a separate CD this could probably be duplicated in the usual ways (create an ISO image etc).

It appears Denso (NAVTEQ produced) DVD’s for other manufacturers won’t work in a Jaguar navigation system because most don’t include a file called LOADING.KWI which seems somewhat unique to Jaguar. Conversely Jaguar Map DVD’s often work in other Denso equipped cars.

 

I have a 02 X-type with Nav. You did not mention what model car you have? Where and How did you acquire the genuine disc?

As far as my experience has been, firmware updates and map DVD are not packaged together.
My system was updated at the dealer for 1/2 hour labour... a rip off but not the end of the world.

The X-type system has used dual layer DVD from the beginning, (and I dont think that an update would bring any DVD player up from single to dual layer machine.)

I have copied a Nav disc sucessfully. Not sure about PTP ot OPT but it is possible.

I have run a Copy of a Cadillac map disc in my jag and it works fine. the only issue is the sweet British voice is not on the caddy disc.

The car is a 2003 S Type R. The disk was bought via ebay ($100) and is genuine.

I exchanged it for a different version with the vender (+$20) DENSO part # 464210-9090 but get the same result.

My local dealership (Las Vegas) appear clueless about any firmware update but I shall try them again.

It's great to hear that you're able to run copies of MAP disks - my reader rejected copies out of hand declaring them "Not Map Disc". The genuine MAP disks it goes to "Reading MAP DVD" whereitremainsindefinately.

 

I am very interested in hearing the results of this. I recently acquired a 2003 S-Type R from my father. The DVD it is currently running is the Jag 1X43 10E898 BB / Denso 464210-5011, and it is hopelessly out of date. He looked into buying an update from the dealer, but it was going to cost anywhere between $600 to over $1000, and it allegedly could only be update to 2005 or 2006, something along those lines...not the current, anyway. Needless to say, he decided it was not worth it, and I agree. Then again, I do not know how knowledgeable the dealer tech really was.

What I am hoping to find out is whether it can be updated to anything more current and what the part number would be (well, and where to find it, perhaps by private message). Obviously I'd love to have whatever the truly current DVD might be, but even if it is only updated to 2006 or whatever, at least then it should have MY address and others in there, which the current version does not.

Anyone who has been down this road before, I could really use some help. I am really frustrated at all the dead-ends...

I have learned that there are two Denso systems - one uses disks which start with Jaguar part number "6W83" and is intended for use in XK & newer XJ. Theother"1X43" is intended for use in older XJ, X-Type& S-Type.

I have also learned that the last twocharacters of the Jaguar part number represent version information. My car was origionally equiped with a BA version which I later upgraded to a BC. The newest version is apparently BG.

I searched the net for 1X43-10E898-B?and found several for sale but none newer than I have. So I visited NAVTEQ who appear to be a general distributor for Denso Navigation media and disocovered they were offering later disks.

Unfortunately theNAVTEQ store site is terrible (www.navitaion.com) and doesn't provide part numbers so I telephoned their sales desk to confirm the part numbers. It took the sales representative a couple of minutes but she was able to provide me the Jaguar part number.

Iordered a 1X43-10E898-BG disk from NAVTEQ for $199 + Tax + Shipping ($225.14 total).

I received order confirmation by email.A week later having received no disk I checked my credit card data and found no charge. I called with my order number to learn that the disk is back ordered pending release! Supposedly the disk is expected to release and be shipped mid Decemeber - I will be charged when it ships.

I'll try to remember to come back to this forum and report my results with the DVD when (if) I ever receive it.

In conclusion: Getting updated navigation media for the Jaguar S-Type R is among the most frustrating and error prone activities I have attempted. I vow to never again attempt to work with factory installed navigation systems - the after-market provide solutions which are cheaper, portable and properly supported with updates, acurate online resources and online transaction processing.

I'll definitely be VERY interested to see whether that new version delivers. Are you sure BG is the latest version, though? On their site they seem to be talking about BH. I guess it'll be interesting to see which version you actually end up with.


That I can agree with. I'm not sure whether newer nav systems (especially hard drive based models) are any better/easier, but maybe with time they'll get better, like most tech. I'm not sure I'd necessarily turn my nose up at a vehicle with built-in nav, if the deal's right, but I agree that portables are easier to update and easier to switch out for a newer, better model. They're not as fast to boot up, they must be plugged in or have limited range due to being battery-bound, they're stuck on your windshield and/or obstruct your dash, etc, so they're not all roses, but to be honest if I could just get this nav system up to date I'd be happy to keep my Garmin Nuvi for out-of-town travel only.

Are you saying you used the 1X43-10E898-BH DVD specifically? And what year/model do you have? The 2005 is yours, or you're saying it was made for a 2005? I'll really be happy to see some radically updated maps and POI's...

 

Hmm...sounds very promising. From what I seem to have gleaned from untold numbers of these kinds of threads out there, the Denso nav system in the 2005 S-Type should match that of the 2003 S-Type, and as such everything should be A-OK. Let's hope so.

I went ahead and pulled the trigger and ordered the disc. I considered offering some money to have you or Phil burn my a copy, as $200 is a frustrating amount to spend just for maps that have my 7 year old subdivision, but in the end I figured it's probably a small enough pool of vehicles for which to produce that particular disc as it is, and I'll contribute to make sure they continue producing updated discs.

OK, so here's an update: it worked perfectly.

FedEx dropped off the DVD today, I turned the ignition to full on (where it normally rests while the engine is running) without actually starting the car, ejected the old disc and inserted the new one. In just a second or two the "INSERT NAVIGATION DVD" message went away, replaced by the following (forgive the terrible pic), which took about 3 minutes or so to complete:



When it eventually went away, I still had to hit "Agree" (why isn't there a way to turn this off?), and it went to this default start position. Notice the North arrow looks a little different now, though again I did a terrible job with the picture:



So I started 'er up, pulled out of the garage, and it went ahead and locked on to my actual position. My address is wrong in every map service I've ever seen: my two Garmins, Yahoo, Google, Mapquest, etc. It points further up the street than where I actually am. These maps are no different. The only really cool thing is that I can actually use my finger on the touch screen to drag around the crosshairs to set my "Home" point more precisely, though it's very touchy and fast-moving and thus rather imprecise.

I tried inputing my address, my friend's address, and both were found right where they were. Very nice. It seems there may be small additional touches here and there like the North arrow mentioned earlier, but I wasn't familiar enough with the old system to be able to instantly spot them more easily.

The package itself was just the DVD in its hard case in a bubble-padded envelope in one of those FedEx envelopes. Nor did they waste any of my $200 on packaging. It was just the DVD in the case, not even an insert. Here are some pics:

My gf's SAAB 95 SC MY06 also has a Denso nav system, and it appears it uses the same LOADING.KWI to update the firmware. General consensus among SAAB owners is that this file contains updates only, as the first generation of discs didn't have it at all while subsequent version have had larger and larger files. These also have the 'agree' button. :-(

However, some industrious chaps at the Cadillac and Corvette forums have found several disgnostics codes for their Denso systems. Some of those codes also work in the SAABs so some of them may also work in the Jaguars.

Hi, I'm new to these forums and I'm very interested in any information anyone has regarding their experiences with the Denso Navigation System. I have an '05 XJ Super and after reading in the UK forums that the new 09.03 update for the nav finally enabled destination entry while in motion, I updated to 1X43-10E898-BJB. After the update, destination, etc. is still disabled while moving. Good news is that the POI database is huge compared to the old 2006-2007 version, and I think the routing is better, making it worth the $199.
I'm wondering if anyone has tried updating to the 09.03 UK or W. Europe firmware, then using the US maps? From everything that I've learned about the way the NAV system works, service pin codes, and versioning of "loading.kwi" that's on the DVD, it seems like the Euro 09.03 with US maps should work for S-Type 03-08, X-Type 02-08, and XJ 04+, but admittedly I could be way off after 20 hours internet research. -Bill
