I want to reconfigure the air intake system by eliminating the muffle over the top of engine (see photos). The engine would look much better without it. I take the car to shows would like it to look at good as possible.
Suggestions for how to do this would be appreciated.

I have thought about using the old fashioned "Pancake filters" on my S, but I dont think they would fit. It doesnt look like you have much space there either. I gave up on the idea after I saw a thread suggesting the despite looks, the filter media on the pancake filter is more of a screen than a filter which would not tend to keep much of the dust and junk out. There was a fellow on the S-type register (Jagstyperegister.com) who was experimenting with 3D printed velocity stacks but there again you lose the filtering quality of an actual filter. I think it would be worth having a look there as the engine bay seems quite similar.
Thanks Jerry. I'm thinking of reversing the metal connector nto the manifold and putting the filter in the adjacent wheel well. This would involve cutting and welding the aluminum piece. I'm looking for someone locally who can do that.
We all know they are big old beasts that sit over the engine and hide the beautiful design especially if you have polished cam covers but they do a job. No good having a beautiful engine to look at if it runs like a bag of spanners because all the crap has got in via a cheap air filter alternative. Many have tried and fitted K&N pancake air filters on the sides of the carbs but as Glyn has described many times before the performance of these air filters is poor at best and in his Job in the Oil Industry he tested them all. This is a link to a thread on the S Type forum where a Guy made some 3D printed air intakes for his car. http://jagstyperegister.com/forum_ne...ilter&start=10
I got this idea from Jose. He painted his air filter housing the same red as the outside of his car so I painted my spare air filter the same colour as my car Old English white. It really enhances the look of the engine bay where I have polished cam covers and polished brass header tanks. No good if your car is already silver or grey though.
These are the same car a couple of years apart. I have changed the Battery, coil, added a header tank and removed the RB340 from the inner wing and generally tidied up with new HT leads and such.,
Original air filter colour. Air filter the same colour as the car.
