Default New jaguar question

I just bought a 2008 jaguar xj vanden plas, can anyone tell me where the code reader receptacle is located on the car. Thanks

Welcome to the Jaguar Forums!

As the photo in the thread Graham referenced shows, the OBDII diagnostic port is located near your right knee when you are seated in the driver's seat of a left-hand drive (LHD) car. It's behind the lower edge of the knee bolster, which is so low that it's easiest to find by feel. Turn the scanner's cable connector so the longest edge is facing forward, toward the engine, then feel along the right edge of the lower trim panel near the center console until you locate the port. The connector does not seat very deeply, so don't press too hard.

Note that most OBDII scanners can only read the powertrain (P) Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), but on your Jaguar there lots of other proprietary codes, including chassis codes (C), body codes (B), and undefined codes (U, mostly network related). To read those codes you will need either a high-end system such as AutoEnginuity with the extra Jaguar module, or a Jaguar dealer-level system such as Jaguar Land Rover System Driven Diagnostics (JLR SDD) that many of us are using at home. Use the forum search function for various options for obtaining SDD and the necessary Mongoose or Mangoose OBDII-to-USB interface cable. I paid $50.00 for mine, with version 134 of SDD, and I'm running it in a Windows XP 32-bit virtual machine on a Windows 7 laptop.
