So I was wondering about the ODB data that is on the datalink bus. Surely that must be present on the DB2 optic bus and potentially could be exposed on the bluetooth link? So theoretically that data could be accessed via bluetooth without an adapter. Not that the adapters are that expensive.

The iPhone software for gauges and ODB-II seems to get bad reviews, however DashCommand appears to to be better?

 

I have and ELMscan from scantool.net. I got it on Amazon. Works excelently with my 01 XJ8. 29 bucks.. I used points..nocharge! Best value i think. Reads everthing including specific codes. Auto accesses the internet to find the definitions of the specific codes. Allows reading of all te auto parameters including o2 sensors high and low trim levels etc.. Great tool for a small budget!

 

I am using an Actron Pocket Scan Plus model CP9410. It has a memory for recalling stored codes. I use it on My 96 XJ6 and a friends 2004 Chrysler Sebring.

 

I used the U480 on my 03 XKR and after a few tries figured out how to use it. The instructions that come with it are not very good. It gave me the correct code of the problem I am having, so I am satisfied with the unit.

Would that the the 67 page U480 manual I've seen on the web? If so, it's a bit over the top for a tool you essentially plug in, switch on and scroll.

These generic lists of code descriptions can be misleading. Better to cross reference the code from the tool against the equivalent description in the Jaguar DTC list.

I have an email in to AutoEnginuity support but being that it's the weekend I thought I would ask here as quite a few of the resident experts use AE.

I recently got AE and have been exploring its capability but the one thing I can't seem to do is connect to the Climate Control or the Active Damping modules.

The door modules and other ISO9141 modules work fine, but the Damping and Climate modules use the K+L line mode and I can't figure how to get those to connect. I've read in other threads of people reading AC sensors, so I assume it's possible somehow.

Any advice? This is with v10.2 + Jag expansion + ST06 USB cable.

I had a problem with an OBD II gauge. It is called a Magna Gauge, and I can find no reference to it on the net anymore, so I assume it is out of business. The gauge works like a Scan Gauge through the OBD II port reading various functions of the motor from its ECU. I had always thought these gauges were completely passive in that no signal was sent back to the ECU.

In my case this was not true. I was "rebooting" the ECU on my '07 XK by the universally simple method of disconnecting the battery leads and then holding them together for a minute or so. The same thing occurs when you just disconnect the battery for overnite. Some, but not all, of the memory capacitors in the ECU discharge; and upon re-start the motor is recognized as a new motor by the ECU and the ECU then "learns" the motor.

In my case I rebooted leaving the Magna Gauge connected, thinking no harm could come from a mere "reader". Upon restart I pulled a check engine light, and indicators that the transmission and cruise control were inoperative. A test drive confirmed the transmission would not shift and the cruise control would not engage.

I rebooted again, but this time I unplugged the Magna Gauge. On restart all was well, except for a check engine light, which extinguished after about five restarts.

The moral of the story is that these OBD II gauges can send false signals to the ECU. They are not fully passive devices.

 

I use an Actron CP9580 on my 2001 XK8. I have no complaints.

 

Has anyone out there used the Go-Link Tech iPhone app (free)? The app is free but the interface cord in $100. I use it and have had no problems and it will do live data. I don't know if I'm missing anything though.

I have ultragauge, works great when Forced Protocol is used.

I also have elm327 ..... doesnt work. It is bluetooth. Pairs up alright, connects to obd2, but will not "talk" TO ECU. It seems it does talk if different protocols are used but sends errors to dash. choosing 9141 still doesnt work. Not sure how to get this going on Torque

killercat, I can only recommend a totally different ELM327 clone, or pay more for something like the KIWIif you like the bluetooth capability. Mine stopped communicating with the jag after 1.5 years using Torque. I had another one that also worked on it, but didn't read my mother's Lincoln...they can be very unpredictable and unreliable. I've got another one on order now, its a v1.5, so hopefully can report on its success in a week or so.

 

I opted for the KIWI and have never had a problem.

Just called Autoenginuity about a scanner for my 95 XJ6. He referred me to eBay for an older model they have for sale that is factory refurbished. It's going for $119.95 buy it now. He said it will work fine for generic codes only, but no Jag specific. Are there any out there for 95's that read Jag specific codes? Apparently, Jag up thru 95 (pre-OBD II) send power to pin 9 and all other makes use that pin for data.

 

My Elm327 stopped working too, wasn't until I changed the com and baud rate that it worked again.
