Not sure about this scanner. I looked them up online after doing an eBay search for diagnostic scanners.
Does anyone have experience with the Foxwell NT624 scanner? It appears to have the same capability as the AutoEnginuity but they really don't provide enough detail.

I want something that will read all problem codes of any type/ any system and will also clear them. It appears AutoEnginuity has that functionality with the Jaguar OE option for around $500 US. It also appears that it's stand alone (doesn't require subscription or updates) so for my 2005 Super V8, it appears to be a single one time expense. Is this correct?

 

They provide so little detail that I would stay away. Also, it has a horribly tiny display that will make many things impractical. No-one seems to have used it so you'd be on your own....

 

I bought a Foxwell NT624 off eBay - the seller has extensive videos on it. It works perfect with my 2006XJR and the 2006 Land Rover Range Rover. Free updates for 1.5Years. Beautiful display and the list of the the various vehicles it covers is impressive. Worth a look. I don't know if I can post a link here, but a simple google search for Foxwell NT624 should turn it up. The seller I am talking about is in the US, there are few in the UK - but much more expensive.

 

Almost all cars on the road are now OBD2 and almost all tools will work on them (so huge coverage) - but ONLY with their PCM (as that's all the laws require). Does the Foxwell do any more i.e. more than the PCM?

 

What "specifically" are you looking for? I only have the XJR at the moment as far as Jaguar that I can test the Foxwell NT624 on.

What JagV8 is asking is does it talk to the other computers in the car such as the powertrain control module, the abs control module etc, pretty much any ODB reader should be able to talk to the ECM on any modern car as the law requires it, but most don't talk to any of the other modules available, some premium OBD readers do, but does this Foxwell talk to these other modules or just the ECM?

On your XJR can it tell you about ABS faults or gearbox faults?

I have Proscan 5.9 running on a stripped down 10.1" toshiba eMachine (also running JTIS). I connect using a usb ELM 327 and have no worries at all...

I am currently trying to capture a record of the sensors (O2) when I get the actual 'Restricted Performance' warning that presents the P0171 and P0174. (Well I have had one attempt but the warning came a little earlier than expected and I wasn't ready!!)

I note that Proscan is in the 'not recommended' column and I am not sure why??? Is this to do with their own connector or is this software no good.

I also have a USB ELM327 connecting with Proscan and I also tried a few other pieces of software.
Sometimes the protocols and timing needs to be fiddled with and give people probems communicating with the ELM327.
Also there are variations of ELM327 which can be a bit 'quirky' although some software has autodetect features which make the connection easier.
For this reason some people just want an instrument that they just take out of the box and it works.
If you want a scanner that is cheap and you are prepared to play with the COM port settings and protocols, then a cheap ELM327 seems to work fine with a number of available software offerings.
Maybe it is this that puts it on the 'not recommended' list, but it works for me and the ELM327 is very cheap. It depends how 'techie' you are I suppose but I admit I had a little fight communicating initially.

 

ProScan is very expensive for what you look to get.

 

Maybe I just missed it but can someone tell me which scanner is best or recommended for a 2004 x-type v6 3.0

The Foxwell NT624 scans EVERY module in my XJR. I contacted the seller of the NT624 to see if he has any additional videos on Jaguar - unfortunately he does not. I will make a short video of the NT624 doing an ALL Module SCAN/Auto Scan on my 2005 XJR and I will post the link here (if that is ok?)

Ok - I have recorded a YouTube video (forgive the quality - I am not artistically inclined) that shows some of the features/options the Foxwell NT624 Scanner does and can "see" on my car. I didn't go through all the available features because it will take 30 minutes or more... Now bear in mind, that I do not think this scanner is the best thing in the world or that it does everything. I think I called 20 friends and stayed up till 3 am reading up on different scanners specs. I don't think there is a perfect scanner out there for under $1000.00! I do believe Autoenginuity has a top notch product, even the price is not bad (probably around $500+ by the time you get all the necessary stuff for Jaguar). However, even Autoenginuity only has coverage up until 2010 in most of the Jaguar line and for the price it ONLY does Jaguar. One of the other reasons I chose this Foxwell scanner is that it can work on just about everything out there...I have 4 kids and they all drive different cars (mostly Japanese). This scanner is able to work on all - so this simply works for me. As far as the build and quality - it is very nice, feels solid and has a beautiful (large) color screen. Below is the video:

For doing all that it makes it much better value (but I don't have lots of cars). I'm not aware of another unit that does so much across so many makes at that kind of price. Good video, btw.

 

Has anyone used the AUTEL MD802 / all, I put in a search but nothing came up. From what I have read it is supposed to read " all " of the codes , obd II, ABS, etc... in U.S. , Euro , Asian , and whatever. It sounds like a great tool for diy on a budget. I have found it on line for $350, but it sound to good to be true. Thanks for any information.

 

I have a Centech - it's 99 bucks from Harbor Freight Tools and reads the generic codes in my Mercedes 2002 W215 and picked up a P1111 code in my 2004 VDP:
