Thanks for the help guys. I'm going to clear the code and see if it pops back up when the car is running fine and then check again when I get that rough idling. That should be a good indicator that the both are/are not interconnected.

I'm also going to check out a few OBD programs and see if there is anything different in what I can get displayed using my ELM327.

Cheers,
Rob

I think you'll find that the P1111 code is a system pass code. There's a list of Jaguar DTCs here:

Ok, that's weird. I was using this list :

http://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/jaguar/

Begs, the next question doesn't it - which list is the accurate list?

What OBDII software works with a 1998 Jaguar XJR?

I have an intermittent gearbox fault which the RAC have come and sorted by clearing the code with their laptop ODB device. I bought an RAC scanner from Argos, but it doesn't clear the code. It finds the fault code, but fails afterwards.

I will buy an ODB to USB lead, but would like to know what software I can use to speak to and clear the fault.

Any help much appreciated.

select a scanner from the approved list that has been tested on XKs or XJs in the 1998-2002 range, same engine, same transmission. A transmission code may not clear as easily as the check engine light, especially if it's electrical/switch/module related.

Just bought a ODBCII off Ebay brand new for $90.00. Had to download the upgraded software and it worked perfect. Dealer wants $130.00 to check codes.

I have a 1998 XJR:

I bought a bluetooth OBDII plug and paired it with my phone and used the Android App, Torque.

It works a treat. Finds and clears codes. Also has a lovely graphical interface showing things like accelleration, boost pressure, throttle position, speed, RPM etc etc whilst driving.

It's free too!

I am using ProScan 5.9 (most recent version) and I am pretty happy with it. Some earlier releases had some issues connecting once in a while to the 1996 XJR6 - but I have encountered the similar issues with other scan software - and some never could connect.
I like that I can do real time monitoring of the Oxygen sensor transitions - let's me figure out if a O2 sensor has gotten 'slow' and should be replaced.
The interface that I am using is a generic ELM327 that I purchased via eBay - shipped from Hong Kong.

The combination works fine with
1996 XJR6
2001 S-Type
2002 Oldsmobile Intrigue

When I received the unit I had problems connecting to the vehicle and it did not work properly all the time and so I went to the "contact us" on ProScan web page and sent a message and expected to receive a response. No response! Sent another, no response! Elected to use the eSupport and received a less than adequate response. At that time I became more frustrated and elected to send it back. Knowing the problems I had making contact I used the return receipt option from the post office. I received the receipt with the confirmation that they got it. Well several months later, no repaired unit. I sent several eSupport and messages to them and no response. At that time I was on fire! I did what I do best and acquired Mr. Gores contact information and phone number and told him personally how dissatisfied I was and explained my situation. He told me they never received the unit, I provided him with a copy of my receipt. He then told me that they found it and that one was in the mail to me.

Since then I had downloaded several updates and each time I run into different issues. Today it works on my 1999 xk8, 1995 xj6 and not on my sons 2000 s-type or my 1996 rav4. However, it did work on my rav4 and not on my 95 xj6 when I first got it. Go figure!

I know that I did a little rambling but I wanted to provide meaningful input to support my comment that I could not recommend this device for these major reasons and that is the lack of customer service and technical support.

Have you had reason to use the support services? And if so how was it?

Hi Gus:

only when I didn't get the email with the serial number - I got an email, but the serial number was missing. I emailed them and within 24 hours I got the email that included the serial number. It did take a while though until my online order was processed - a couple of days. But otherwise, I did not have to use support services.

Christian,

I will give the new update a try. It is a good tool if only I could get past the initial shortfalls of the customer service and support.

Innova 3030 and Actron CP9175 also work on the 96 XJR6 and the 01 S-Type.

The Innova 3030 looks like it's the same as the already listed CanOBD2 3030.
It only supports basic P codes (Powertrain - Engine and Transmission).

The Actron CP9175 does support the other codes B, C, U - but haven't verified this (haven't had any of those codes).

Thumbs up Innova 3130 works

Innova 3130 works in my 2000 XJ8, both generic & Jaguar Specific codes are read. I had also called their tech support with questions when first using & they were helpful. I bought it from Amazon in 2009 for $136.

I had purchased an Auto Xray AX1500 CodeScout which didn't work at all on my Jag & I tried it on my neighbors truck & it worked so, I returned it to buy the Innova.

Innova is made by Equus:

Hi all,

recently I bought the AutoEnginuity Pc tool. My problem is it doesn't connect to the car. I'm not talking about the extra jag package. What I'm trying to do is use standard ODB-II.

my car is XJR from year 2000. Anyone who managed to make it work with this car?
BTW: AutoEnginuity support let me down :-(

Thanks.

Just bought the OBDCOM product because of this thread. The reports of the excellent customer service are what swayed me. It has worked flawlessly so far on my 05 XJ8L.

Well the hints may have worked, the problem is I don't have the car anymore, so I was unable to test it.

My, a bit newer Jag, is on the way to me. Once I have it, I'll test it and will see.

Innova (Equus) 3030 Diagnostic Code Reader

Reads & clears basic codes. About $45 USD. Works fine on my '08 XKR.

Thought you guys were just kidding when I read that a code reader was a necessity with these cars. They ought to come with one.
