If I were designing modern cars, I have the LCD screen in the car display ALL available codes, and to alert the driver at once as to any malfunction AND its source. There would be no need then for a scanner at all. I'm betting myself 50p that some manufacturer somewhere is already doing just that.

I recently purchased the AutoEnginuity with Jaguar enhanced and its a nice tool worked fine on a 2000 xj8 VDP with the enhanced feature but not on my 96 VDP.
Im going to try it on another 96 vdp later in the week.

Has anyone had sucesss with this on the earlier x300 cars?

Thanks
Tim in Fla

thanks alfatim,

this is the type of answer I was waiting for. I didn't manage to make AutoEnginuity standard PC tool connect. I was told that with the Jaguar enhanced option it will work but I was waiting for someone reporting that it actually worked.

I buy now the Jaguar enhanced option and I'll write back to the forum if it worked.

My experience ha sbeen that AutoEnginuity will connect for generic powertrain equally well or poorly independant of the enhanced Jag features. Keep trying on the X-300,; sometimes it takes several reboots of the computer to get it connected. And the manufacturer claims having the laptop running on an inverter can screw up the connectivity due to noise.

I can connect generic powetrain if I enter the car a 1996 VDP as an xj6
Ditto the ABS module .
I havent had any luck connecting to the climate control ,transmission so far any way.
If I enter it as a 1996 VDP and select non OBDII it will bring up the enhanced menu but I get an error not able to communicate with the controller .

I have the proline connector with generic OBDII and Jaguar enhanced I dont have the version right here but it is the latest one . I just got it the first of february from AE.

So I am still learning how to use the different functions .

I've had my AE for 3 years, and i'm STILL discovering new things in it, and what it can see/do.

I have just bought Autoenginuity with the Jaguar enhaced software. I first tried it on my 1996 x300 4.0. It would not connect. then tried it on my friends 1998 x308 3.2. It connected, rang support, they sent an update file which I used to alter the registry in my pc. Now it connects to my 1996 x300 sometimes, but not to the x308. Also, it only finds 'generic power train' and ABS system on my 1996 x300. I need to go back to support to ask why. When I have managed to connect to the x300, I can view the O2 sensors ect looking for the cause of stalling at idle and missing. However as soon as the engine misses a beat, the software disconnects and all values go to zero. So far I would say that this product lookes brilliant if it works, but so far mine dose not.

It could very well be the age of the car and essentially the OBD system incompatibility with AE. Wasn't it January 1, 1996 that OBDII protocols in cars were required to meet the 'standard'. Your 1996 may have been a 1995 manufacturing date...unsure if the AE would even be able to ready anything included in that enhanced package you purchased if it wasn't the newest communication protocols. If it doesn't...get a partial refund. Do you also try multiple reconnects, as mine never connects on the first try, takes a couple minutes, but almost always on the 2nd, or even 3rd connection attempt.

I have an Equus 3130 by Innova. I bought mine new for $129.00 from Amazon.com It lists for $311.00. For $99 it can be upgraded to read ABS. You can compare their models at www.iequus.com. At that site you can also put in the trouble codes that you have and see what it means. If you are going to get one of these meters, then I would recommend that you get one that gives you a look at "Live" or real time data. For example: when testing a throttle position sensor, you should see a smooth reading up and down as you move the pedal. An Equus 3040 can give you live data for under $100 maybe around $80. Forget their list prices, Amazon is cheap and so is Walmart (online).

Jaguar's will put out "generic" codes so don't blame the meters.

I just ordered the bluetooth version of Kiwi PLX (99.00) and downloaded the pay for version of Torque (4.95) for my Droid X. Also bought the Motorola car dock from Amazon for 30.00 along with a longer USB cable to reach my BT charger as the coiled car chargers are usually too short or won't stay plugged in because of the tension.

I should have it Thursday and when I pick up my STR on Saturday I'll let everyone know how it works by updating this post. Thought it might come in pretty handy as I'm driving 2000 miles after I pickup my STR

At leasyt on a X-308, notice how many threads concern the ABS and TRAC control systems. Anything short of AutoEnginuity will not read these systems. Nor the seat, mirror, BPM, security or other sensors. For General purpose, they are better than nothing, but if you are serious about maintaining a kitty, Get The Right Stuff.

I agree. However, keep in mind that the Torque/Kiwi/Droid X combination fills a need I have... to be able to view data that our cars do not share with us via dash gauges AND to be able to view your most common and important codes...things that leave you stranded on the road. It's nice to see boost, oil pressure and temps, etc plus all of the other functionality that Torque provides.

I'd love to have a copy of AutoEnginuity though.

Hooked my Kiwi up to my wife's 07 Tahoe tonight, worked like a champ as I'm sure it will with my STR.

On the Obdcom u can add 01 s-type, 05 str and 09 XF as compatible with it. Also worked on our gmc Denali. On the 01 it did pick up the Jaguar specific codes also.

Just a post to say the KIWI Bluetooth OBD-II interface has proven rock solid, and fast.

I have an Actron CP9175 (on the recommended list) that works fine on my GMC 2500 and my wife's PT Cruiser, but gave me a data error message when connected to a '97 XK8 that I am trying to check out to buy. Don't know if it is the car or the reader that is having the problem. The reader powers up and attempts to connect just as it does for other cars, but will not talk to the Jag.

Default An Alternate Path

This is simply a WAG---an alternate path, as it were.

First, my car is an '02 Lincoln LS. It came with a 3.9 litre variant of the AJ family. I've done a replacement and now have an AJ 27 engine with some aftermarket upgrades. In a series of experiences too long to explore here, I became attracted to Land Speed Racing with the car, and now hold the ECTA National Record in my class---E/F CC. I use SCT tuning equipment both for making alterations to fuel and ignition curves and to read the occasional fault code. I don't find it necessary to use anything else.

Since the SCT interface/laptop combo works for exploring an AJ 27 engine in my car, perhaps it'll work on a Jag that came from the factory with the AJ engine??

KS
