Question Problem starting.

My 94 xj6 is having problems starting. I can use starting fluid and it will start. This has happened before and I replaced the relay and it fixed the problem but 5 months later its doing it again. So what could be problem that keeps effecting my relay or could it be something else?

My thoughts very early on a Sunday morning, with HOT coffee at teh ready.

"Replaced the relay" is a tad vague. WHICH relay, you have many on that car.

I will assume (haha) the fuel pump relay.

No matter. If the relay replace fixed the issue, and it has now returned, I would suggest that whatever component that relay controls is the culprit.

Being an XJ40, I reckon the fuel pump is tired, drawing waaaaay too much current, overloading the relay, hello problem again.

I would also repost in the XJ40 section to get a flood of answers.

One of the Moderators will wander along sooner or later, and move it for you, but that could be a while.

Just coz I am thinking a bit clearer now, ensure the HT lead from the coil to the centre post of the distributor cap is GOOD. I have had some where the terminals are corroded in the coil/cap, and that reduces spark energy. Enough to ignite that fluid spray, but not petrol.
