Default Radio Frozen "ON". Antenna stuck up - Resolved

1995 XJ6 4.0L

I have had a few issues with "NOT CONT" displaying on the radio intermittently but the CD works 80% of the time. Today, I started my car and noticed the display said CD1 Track 1 but no sound. I went to shut off the radio but nothing! The antenna is up and the radio stays lit with the display showing the same mesage even after the car is shut off. I can't switch to radio or shut it off.

Has anyone had this happen before? Perhaps a battery disconnection is in order? Any advice? Thanks in advance. This is a great site and I appreciate the help.

Allyn

Mmmmm,

A battery off and on may reset it, definately worth a try.

Failing that I would find the fuse and pull it, that will kill the radio and still allow the antenna to lower, I THINK. Battery OF will kill ALL power, so the "reverse" power to lower the antenna will not be available.

I don't know this car but if Grant's idea doesn't reset things it is not impossible for relay contacts to weld 'closed' so worth swapping the one that controls radio + aerial (assuming there is one).

Success!!!!! I didn't get far. The first thing I check was the fuses. i pulled the Radio fuse in the trunk (15A) and checked it. It was good. When I plugged it back in, the antenna made noise and started to retract. I checked the radio and it was off! Woohoo! I turned the radio on and off a dozen times and it works fine.

Might want to archive this one as a first step in fixing this issue.

FANTASTIC.

I am a tad rude, mmmmm, YOU ARE NEW, so welcome to our side, sorry for that brain fade.

More importantly, what did you drink as a celebration of a task completed?????????, I will have a nice JD for you later today.

As a side note, when you have another issue with the BEAST, post it in the X350 section, the answers/suggestions/whatever will be thicker and a faster.

ENJOY.

Glad it was simple.
It might be worth getting some electrical contact cleaner and working through all the fuses in that box to prevent more bizarre faults.
I've marked the thread 'Resolved' to help others.
