Default Resetting "service required".

Anyone know how to reset the 'service required' message in the lcd window on diesel S-type? I've tried this:---

1)Press/hold reset button, turn ignition on.
2)Release reset.
3)Press/hold trip button.
4)Holding trip, press/hold reset, holding for 10secs. while window shows clear.

I've used as reset the button on fascia just to right of steering wheel, and LH stalk on wheel as trip.

DOESN'T WORK! Just does a normal reset of function selected.

Couldn't find anything searching here, got the above via Google.
I've done the service already BTW.

Give this a try.......

1. NOTE: Steps 2 to 5 must be completed within 3 seconds for successful service mode resetting.
• NOTE: Ignition key in the OFF position.
Press and hold down the trip computer CLEAR/RESET button.

2. Continue to hold down the trip computer CLEAR/RESET button and turn the ignition switch to the ON position.

3. Release the trip computer CLEAR/RESET button.

4. Press and hold down the trip computer TRIP button located on the left-hand steering column multifunction switch.

5. Continue to hold down the trip computer TRIP button and press and hold down the trip computer CLEAR/RESET button.

6. Continue to hold down the trip computer TRIP and CLEAR/RESET buttons, RESETTING SERVICE MODE will display in the information and message center if steps 2 to 5 are completed successfully.

7. After 10 seconds the information and message center will then display SERVICE MODE RESET once the process is complete.

8. NOTE: If the information and message center does NOT display SERVICE MODE RESET, steps 1 to 8 must be repeated.
Release the trip computer TRIP and CLEAR/RESET buttons and turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.

You may be getting tripped up by the 3 second limit. They mean it, 3 seconds; sometimes I have to try 3 or 4 times to get the thing reset on our later stateside models.

Good luck!

Nice info Steve and a potential for the FAQ's list I'd say.
Please come back Leedsman and tell us how it goes?

Thanks

Yes let us know if it does the trick.

I've got a Chevy truck on rental juswt now and it was showing the oil change warning the reset was to switch on the ignition and pump the go pedal three times. Easy Peasy.

Good Luck.

I was using the original TSB instructions from Jaguar, however, these do not seem to be quite correct, notably the instruction " wait one second".
So I've re-written them perhaps in a more constructive way as follows:--

Resetting "service required" message in LCD window, Jaguar S-type.

The following must be carried out at what seems like lightning speed to someone who has not done it before. Ignore any instruction to "wait one second" -- this will result in failure.
To be clear, "reset" means the reset button to the right of the steering column on the small panel of buttons affixed to dash panel.
To be clear, "trip" means the button on the end of the stalk, left side of steering column.

Procedure:--

1)Insert key only.
2)Hold reset.
3)Turn on ignition only so fascia lights up -- let go reset -- hold trip -- hold reset
4)Window indicates "resetting service mode" - do not let go of anything yet.
6)When window says "service mode reset", job is done, (in about 10sec).

Rehearse the procedure until you can do it in one smooth operation; the -- in the instructions means 'no waiting' while you're thinking. Do not fret if it doesn't work, there is no lock out, you can do it as many times you want.

Good news Leedsman!
