Wiper motor park switch location

Wiper motor park switch location
Hi.... I'm new to the Forum...have a 1991 XJ6. Bought new. Recently, my wiper started acting erratically. Won't work in intermittent mode and parks in different positions. I bought a new wiper control (stalk arm to the right of the steering wheel) and installed it, but no change. Then on a parts website read that if the intermittent and park don't work properly, it is the wiper motor park switch. I ordered one for $39.00. I got it, but have no idea where to find it to replace! It is not seen near the wiper motor. I've looked up diagrams on the Internet and still no info.
So.....can anyone tell me exactly where to find this switch? It's about 1.25" long and has two prongs on one end and one on the other and also a small red button on one end.
Thanks! :-)

Bill, if it is like the other wiper motors that I have worked with (not infinitely familiar with the older XJ's), the switch is inside the wiper motor. So, you will need to pull the wiper motor from the car (easiest) and then open up the motor assembly and then you will see where the switch is located.
But, like I said, I am going off of my experiences with other vehicles and where those switches are located on them.

park switch has to be on the motor assembly(where I've seen them) to know when it is in the lowest position. If you turn off the wipers mid-stroke they don't stop until home position is reached actuating the park switch opening the circuit stopping the motor. It's like a double pole double throw microswitch set up, in the right position one contact is off one is on waiting for the common to get it it's next command from the stalk switch. In the intermittent position the stalk switch is feeding power to an timer relay which feed power intermittenly to the park switch to do the same sequence. Just make sure you put the wires back on the same way they come off or it won't cycle at all.

Easy to do, motor does not have to be removed from the car.
Good luck!

Thanks Steve. Found it and removed and replaced switch...but.....wiper still does the same thing....works fine for speeds 1 & 2. But doesn't work in intermittent. Intermittent just makes a partial swipe, waits, then another fragment of a swipe, waits, and then more of the same.....I also replaced the controller stalk (on right of steering wheel).
Is there something else that controls the current to the motor to make intermittent wipes? Can't figure this out......
Thanks for any advice
Regards,
Bill

Behind the RH underscuttle, below the glovebox, there is an in-line fuse. It started out as a 5 amp, and was eventually changed to s 7.5 amp. That fuse is probably blown. It's usually about 1/3 of the way across from the console. Replace it with the 7.5 amp ATC fuse.
Check that out.
Good luck!
