Default Xk8 key fob range

Hi, fobs (x2) will only lock/arm car when held over rear window, say 12" max distance(yup, inches).
Read forum, new battery fitted (3vdc), cleaned fob batt contacts. No change.
Would a fob reset work? All functions currently work though.
Where is car rx/tx? Located Sec cont mod in boot, held fob here but no improvement. Headlining has been off previously, is it under there? Suspect car issue as both fobs have limited range.

Checked my vin its the 04 model.

As the fobs are already paired with the vehicle, a reset would make no difference.

The security system antenna is at the top of the rear screen on the coupe. Make sure the button connector to it is secure and the harness that comes down from behind the headliner is undamaged.

I had a similar fault with my 1999 X308. I would need to be within a few feet of the rear screen antenna to get the fob to activate the locks.
I checked the rear screen coax and wiring (OK).
I looked at the SLCM and saw that the COAX plug 'seemed' connected but upon farther investigation it turned out it was loose (almost disconnected) only held on by less than a thread.

I fully inserted the connector and screwed it tight!!! Range back to normal!!!!

Aha. Appears the soldered tab on the long aerial is not connected to the screen. This leaves one tab intact but connected to the short aerial, maybe explains range issue. All of the above on the rear screen top common to the wiring connector.
Found this...

...but wonder if there are any screen changing guru's out there with a better solution?
