Click/tick noise coming from somewhere around the disk brakes
Hi Forum,
I have a 2020 HSE and since day one there's a "metallic" click/tick noise coming from somewhere around the disk brakes, I can only hear it when I'm driving slowly and apply the brakes or turn the wheels or both. The noise is only heard when the car is in a quiet place - e.g. underground parking garage - but untraceable when on the open road.
I visited the dealer twice, but they only drove it on a public road and obviously heard nothing. Am I the only one with this issue?

My best guess is you've picked up a nail in one of your tires. That is typically what causes the behavior you are hearing, and you'll want that repaired before your tire goes flat as the nail moves around and the rubber stops making a seal. It could also be your brake shoes not releasing properly and overheating the rotor, but you'd notice a drag, and you'd get a smell so I'm betting a nail or screw in one of your tires. When I hear that noise (we have a lot of construction where I live), I know it is time to visit the tire store, Good luck!
The only time I had a problem like this, and it was on my old 2004 XKR, was when I had a brake and bearing job done, and they'd failed to tighten the rear wheel hub. Were it my car, I'd go to a tire and wheel shop and have a front and rear alignment check and ask them to look for excessive play in the rear wheels. The other thing to check is whether there is any play in the brake calipers or if they in any way look loose (check the retaining bolts). But a decent tire and wheel shop should be able to find the problem if it is related to the wheels and not the drive train. Another area that can make noise are the CV joints so once on the rack, see if you can cause the noise by rolling the wheels forward and backward. That's about all I can think of without seeing the car. If you can somehow capture the sound it would make it easier for the shop to diagnose.
Problem no more.
A few hours at the dealership, SSM75410 sorted out the tick noise.
(Got a Range Rover Evoque replacement for half day - objectively a decent car, subjectively made me miss the I-Pace so much...)
