Direction of Engine Rotation

Direction of Engine Rotation
I've had a hard time finding anything on the forums or www about how the direction of rotation of a vehicles engine relates to the transmission. Some of you might know why I ask this...
All of the automatic V12 powered Jaguar cars are equipped with a GM Hydromatic 400 or the later 4L80E. How did they get a GM transmission that rotates clockwise in most applications (as seated in vehicle), i.e. older GM cars and trucks, to work with Jaguar engines that rotate counter-clockwise? Were they specially made for Jaguar?
May I assume that the transmission's one-way clutches are somehow reversed or mirror-imaged? I want to assume that the torque converter is also a mirror image with regard to it's direction of blades curvature and orientation of the one-way stator cluctch inside.
Oddly, the transmission shop that has my XJ12 (V12/4L80E) doesn't seem to know, and/or they won't find out or tell me. The transmission repair was a success except for the serious vibration at 2000 rpm in all modes, even in Park. I'm blaming the torque converter, but I'm told it was the original one in the car that was rebuilt. It seems to be waaay off-balance. They seem to disagree.
Can anyone shed some light onto this "mystery"? TIA.
Loved your tour of the Scottish Mackie facility, Graham. Thanks!
Hmmm, maybe should have posted in X27...

On the other hand, I might just be confused! I've got a lot going on in my mind with this repair. I haven't been around older GM vehicles with the TH400 or 4L80E in a while. From what I've managed to find out since my post, those engines are rotating counter-clockwise too (to the left). It really doesn't make sense for a manufacturer to build the same transmission for opposite directions. Disregard for now!
